Yesterday, I bought UNH — P/E 14.4.  UNH’s chart looks good.

Today I’ll sell WEN. P/E is 76. Too high. Should have sold it earlier. It’s crossing its 200-day moving average.

WENDYs

Should I invest in this? This morning I received this press release — I don’t make this stuff up. I can’t.

Hi Harry,

Imagine the impact on global energy consumption if every street light in the world was switched off. Nations could save up to 40% of their total energy expenditure, and avoid releasing millions of tons of CO2 emissions into the atmosphere.

Swedish innovator FOREO proposes a radical project to brighten the moon, eliminating the need to use street lights at night. By improving the moon’s capability of reflecting sunlight (albedo rate, which is currently a low 0.12), the world can experience brighter nights, as detailed via a presentation video published through the FOREO Institute.

According to the Foreo website, they’ve raised $52.9 million. They report:

The funds that have been acquired for this project will be used for feasibility testing and further research.

The FOREO Institute has developed a number of promising methods of transforming the surface of the moon that need to be further investigated. Various feasibility tests will be carried out to establish the exact methodology of the process that will transform the moon’s surface, as well as which solution is the most cost effective and easy to implement.

Due to the early stages of this project, patent rights and other issues, the FOREO Institute is unable to disclose details on the transformation process. However, we are currently in our testing phase, and our research and investigation is ongoing daily.

The FOREO Institute would like to thank all of the supporters who have joined us so far. Your contribution has allowed us to move forward with this ambitious project and to develop a solution to the global energy crisis.

And the time frame? The longest I’ve ever seen.

If you’re on an iPhone or a iPad and you can’t see all today’s images, tap once on the image. It will get bigger and fill the screen. Neat Apple trick.

We started a bank in 2009.It’s doing well. But it hasn’t paid any dividends, or been sold. Will I have to wait until 2040? Fixing the moon suddenly seems easy.

Minor things I’ve learned:

+ Investments that rely on on-going government subsidies — like ethanol — are always lousy investments.

+ Call your cable company and lie. Tell them you’re switching. They’ll reduce your bill $20 a month. I tried this “strategy.” It worked.

+ Call your  online clothing company and ask “Can they do better?” They will. They’ll drop shipping, and perhaps 25% off the price. It worked with Lands End.

Today is the first day of Passover. It lasts for eight. You can’t buy from B&H until April 23. Friends have asked me for an explanation of Passover. Happy to oblige:

Moses was leading the promised people out of the Egypt. Eventually they reached the Red Sea, and were stymied.

Moses calls his VP Engineeering, “Build me a bridge.”

“Sorry, boss, no wood, no steel, nothing. This is a desert.”

Moses calls his VP Sales, “Go work a deal with the advancing Egyptian army.”

An hour later, “No deal, boss, they just want to kill us.”

Moses calls his VP Public Relations, “What can you do?”

“See that rock. Stand on it. Ask God to part the Red Sea. Take your people through it. When you’re safely on the other side, you’ll see another rock. Stand on it. Wait for the Egyptians to get into the parted Red Sea. When they are, ask God to close the Red Sea. Your enemies will be vanquished. And you can safely take your children onto the Promised Land.”

This going to work? asks Moses.

MosesPartsThe RedSea

Replies his VP Public Relations, “I have no idea, boss. But, if it does, I’ll get you three pages in the Old Testament.”

Makes sense to me.

I don’t make this stuff up.

Harry Newton who is always interested in new studies:

The National Institute of Health has released the results of a $20 million research study.

The new study found that women who carry a little extra weight live longer than the men who mention it.
