9:00 AM EST, Tuesday, May 26, 2009. What a great weekend. Great weather. Great family. Great friends. Great tennis. Great news. I finished my dictionary. There's clearly more to life than reading about a lousy economy and dealing with two crashed hard drives. Now to the important things.

1. Cherish your health. Much news on the weekend about friends with serious health issues. Time to watch The Bucket List again. Do all the things you want to do.

2. Cherish your family. They're getting busier. My daughter spent the weekend hunched in front of her computer and yellow-lining important bits of endless documents. God bless 3M's Post-It notes.

Lousy economic news. Everyone was freaked by John Mauldin's latest piece. Basically he says, the U.S. is in big trouble and it's time to look overseas to place your money. Read the piece -- here.

Lousy computer news: My main PC crashed and its backup drive crashed. I don't know why. I moved to a new computer. I didn't lose any work, just oodles of time and patience. You can never have enough backups.

I discovered Google's new Internet browser called Chrome. It really is a significant improvement over all over browsers. Big plus: It's fast. Super fast. Get it for free here.

I did little work on investing over the weekend. What I read suggests that sentiment has turned ugly and this recent rally has run out. International is great. My Australian dollar is soaring.

You buy retail. Or you can buy at Trader Joe's. My children shop only Trader Joe's. Here's why. Two cartons of cereal, one bought from the local supermarket and one bought from Trader Joe's

Here are the numbers.

Size of box
Price
Price per ounce
Local supermarket
15.3 ounces
$5.49
35.88 cents
Trader Joes
24.0 ounces
$3.69
15.38 cents

Trader Joe's is less than half the cost of our local supermarket.

Nothing appeals like new gadgetry. The new PowerShot D10 is Canon's first waterproof camera and tough like all get out. It can be submerged 33 feet, fall four feet and withstand temperatures as cold as 14°F. Around $330. Michael and I are going down the Grand Canyon soon. We need it. I haven't used it yet. I bought one on the weekend. The trip would have killed my beloved Canon G10.

Kindle's amazing new unsung benefit. Our family is big on listening to enriching works (and garbage) as we drive. Michael bought the new Warren Buffett biography "Snowball." Michael has discovered that Kindle will read a book to you. It's not exactly Buffett's voice or any other human's voice. It's a computer. But it's perfectly fine to listen to the book while driving. All you do is plug the Kindle into your car's sound system. This little thing will help if you have a cassette player in your old car:

$14.99 at Radio Shack.
