Larry Fink and Dilbert talk about investing

Great money managers are profoundly optimistic today on America, e.g. Berkshire’s Warren Buffett and BlackRock’s Larry Fink.

This week on Charlie Rose, Fink waxed lyrically on:

+ Technology. “It’s changing everything. Most of its happening in the United States.

+ All these new technologies are being created in the United States.

+ Sharing. It started with music, then the cloud…. then the car.. It’s transformational (a word he used often).

+ Cheapest natural gas. America has it. We’re the center of it. It’s benefiting many manufacturing industries.”

+ North America is doing superbly in energy production.

+ Mexico will shortly see a huge surge in energy production, as technology kicks in there, as it has here.

+ India suddenly has great leadership. Great leadership has re-energized growth.which is making a positive difference to investment prospects there. “We will be providing investment opportunities for our customers in India.

+ Knowing your time frame is critical to your investment decisions. Are you planning for your retirement in 40 years? Or investing to buy a new house in four years?

+ Washington is dysfunctional.

Fink believes three areas need attention in Washington — infrastructure, immigration and tax reform. “These three things would be enormous — could add 1% to our GDP growth. 4% GDP growth is achievable.”

800,000 students are being educated…here. We educate them, then send them back to their countries to compete against us. Why not let them stay?

But wait, there’s more. Much more. Larry Fink on Charlie Rose. Watch the hour-long interview. Click here.

Thoughts of a probing mind

I am neither for nor against apathy.

If the world were a logical place, men would be the ones who ride horses sidesaddle.

They told me I was gullible and I believed them.

Experience is the thing you have left when everything else is gone.

One nice thing about egotists … They don’t talk about other people.

My weight is perfect for my height … Which varies.

I used to be indecisive. Now, I’m not sure.

The cost of living hasn’t affected its popularity.

How can there be self-help groups?

Show me a man with both feet firmly on the ground, and I’ll show you a man who can’t get his pants off.

Is it just me, or do buffalo wings taste like chicken?

All I ask is one chance to prove that money can’t make me happy.

Harry Newton, who looks forward to today’s two extractions and three implants. What makes me feel less wary is the technology involved — from the 3D x-rays on. Impressive stuff. Won’t hurt me one little bit. And if I believe that, I’m sure someone will sell me a nice bridge.
