The worst scams.<\/strong><\/span> “I’m in jail. Please wire $1,800 bail money to Mexico.” … Later …\u00a0 “They just found drugs in the car, please wire another $1,800. Please don’t tell my father.”<\/p>\n

This scam is played on grandparents. Warn them. The scam works. It happened to friends. The kid was alive and well in New York City, thousands of miles from Mexico.<\/p>\n

Second scam.<\/strong> Money is stolen from bank accounts as a result of emailed instructions.FINRA said the incidents highlight “some of the risks associated with accepting instructions to transmit or withdraw funds via email.”<\/div>\n

FINRA and the FBI have called on companies and financial professionals to do a better job of authenticating transactions. In short, never allow money to be moved from your bank account on the strength of an email alone. It’s easy to get into yours and my email account.<\/div>\n
While you’re at it, fix your passwords. Wired Magazine has a list of useful “Don’ts”:<\/div>\n

+ Don’t reuse your passwords.+ Don’t use a dictionary word as a password. Make up a “word.”<\/div>\n

+ Don’t use a dictionary word as your password. If you must, string several together into a phrase.<\/div>\n

+ Don’t use standard substitutions —\u00a0 like P455wOrd.” Cracking tools have those built it.<\/div>\n

+ Don’t use a short password. Even passwords like hG1rSq are quickly cracked.<\/div>\n
