Jobs add of 142,000 disappointed Wall Street which expected 230,000. Still, unemployment is down to 6.1% — much higher in places like Ferguson, lower in New York City and Silicon Valley. Location. Location. Location. You should see the explosion of new high-priced, high-rise residential apartments in New York. The city has become the place to dump your hot or scared money. Russia. Europe. Asia.<\/p>\n

Stock futures today are lower. Ignore them. Go play or watch tennis. Gael Monfils fell apart last night after he failed to close on two match points. Good lesson for all of us. Hang in. Stay in for the long haul. Fight your internal demons. You can make it. His opponent, Roger Federer, plays it point by point, grinding to the end, not letting his mis-hits affect his psyche. When dealing with the stockmarket, I tend to panic — selling on dips that, I fantasize, are permanent. But then, I also fall in love with stocks and stay with them too long. I’m sticking with my 8% Inviolate Stop Loss Rule, despite lessons from Monfils.<\/p>\n

I’m also moving more money to simple ETFs and simple funds.<\/p>\n

On the “Ah-Choo!” he flicks some drops of water over the top of the seat onto the personal in front of him. The seat will bolt upright instantly. I would also tap the person on the shoulder and apologize, mumbling something about “being unable to shake this awful cold which I’ve had for three weeks.”<\/p>\n

+ Airlines are flying full of unwashed. Airlines (and Amtrak) are going nuts with demand pricing. Only solution: buy tickets way in advance.<\/p>\n

+ The “IRS” calls, threatens with immediate jailing unless you pay. Don’t. It’s a scam. Some scammers have figured how your phone can show “IRS” as the callerID. Neat trick.<\/p>\n

+ Whoever calls, don’t give them your credit card number. Always ask to call them back. That will kill 99% of your begging calls.<\/p>\n

+ HD Voice improves cell calls. But you must have an HD phone. Later iPhones are. And there must be an HD Voice compatible phone on both ends. T-Mobile is the first carrier with it. I’m increasingly impressed with T-Mobile.<\/p>\n

+ Microsoft’s Outlook’s Tools\/Rules and Alerts lets you consign spam email directly to your deleted items folders. Neat. Works, too.<\/p>\n

+ Check if your bank will give you a double password into your account. JPMorgan Chase can’t. But they can give me a little gadget that flashes different numbers every minute. I have to enter the latest number to get into my bank account. Strikes me as a pain. I prefer the two-step userid\/password that I now use to get into the computer that holds this blog.<\/p>\n

+ Your online brokerage accounting makes mistakes. Some don’t include the value of dividends received. Some have strange ways of accounting for splits, spinoffs and dividends. Don’t be depressed when you’re “losing” money when you’re really making it. Call and ask for explanation of their weird accounting.<\/p>\n

+ Best place to buy theater tickets in advance is at the theater. Best place to buy tickets for tonight is at the tkts booth on Times Square. You can check which shows are on sale via the tkts app, available now at the Apple store. But you can’t buy tickets through the app. I don’t know why.<\/p>\n

+ Take money out of your IRA if you’ve antique, like me.<\/p>\n
