These are Buffett’s stocks as of end December.<\/p>\n

The moral: You can do very well if you hold quality companies for a long, long time, e.g. Coca Cola.<\/p>\n

Nothing like a visit to Costco<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Yesterday I spent two hours at Costco buying a hearing aid. Conclusions:<\/p>\n

+ Costco is the only busy retailer in town. It’s a wonderful mob scene. A testimony to how well Costco managers understand their customers (and now me).<\/p>\n

+ I spent $3,000 on ReSound Forte hearing aids. They seem to be the solution I’ve been looking for. I walked around the store with a demo unit. I could actually hear.<\/p>\n

+ What struck me at Costco was the high level of service. It’s a discount store, but the employees were super-kind and
\nsuper-enthusiastic. Especially Menessa Garcia who tested my hearing, then sold me my new hearing aids.<\/p>\n

You could spend a day prowling Costco and photographing some of the weird stuff they sell:<\/p>\n

And the incredibly cheap stuff they sell. That’s six pounds for $16.91:<\/p>\n

Don’t do stupid. All these derive from recent stupids.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

+ When lifting your head from working low, watch you don’t hit your head coming up. I have twice and it still hurts.<\/p>\n

+ Always hold the stair railing. Watch for the dangerous last step.<\/p>\n

+ Wash your hands. Get a flu shot. Stay away from coughing people.<\/p>\n

+ Don’t lift your heavy bag into the overhead bin. That’s for young-uns.<\/p>\n

+ Before you leave for a weekend, check under each sink for water leaks. It’s amazing how much damage a small leak can cause over a couple of weeks.<\/p>\n

+ Careful getting out of strange showers. Bathrooms are dangerous.<\/p>\n

\nHarry Newton. Frankly, I’m excited about my new ReSound Forte hearing aids. I have no idea if I paid less or more than I should have — I can’t find them on the Internet. I also have no idea if they’re the best. But they sound great and come with a really neat Bluetooth app (now on my iPhone) which lets me adjust their volume, their room ambiance, their sensitivity to certain frequencies. They also work as speakers for phone calls. Susan is ecstatic. Apparently after 42 years of marriage, she still wants to talk to me. Go figure.<\/p>\n
