Difficult industries not to own:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

I like tech for one reason:<\/p>\n

It’s infinitely scaleable as a result of The Cloud’s infinite capacity and the continued explosion of ways\u00a0 on the Internet to get to it.\u00a0 Think of the progress of media: first thin copper, then thick copper (called cable), then fiber and soon mobile’s 5G. Think of what you’ll able to do when your mobile phone speeds are twenty to thirty times faster than what they are today. Think how many 5G iPhones Apple will sell. 5G begins soon.<\/p>\n

Today Business Insider reported that Apple’s App Store has made Apple at least $40 billion in revenue since it was created 10 years ago today. What a lovely business selling music, games, podcasts, expense trackers, Nike workouts, and even more games. And the marginal cost of selling and providing all these apps to its adoring fans — close to zilch. Does the App Store waste any money on advertising?<\/p>\n

This\u00a0tech stuff is the stuff I love.<\/p>\n

Here is all the stuff I dislike. It’s too hard and too unpredictable.<\/p>\n

+ Biotech
\n+ Marijuana (despite being 100% legal in Canada in October)
\n+ Cryptocurrencies, like bitcoin and ethereum
\n+ Miners, especially exotic ones like lithium miner Albermarle (last two years)<\/p>\n

+ Energy companies, like Exxon Mobil (last two years)<\/p>\n

\"XOM\"<\/a><\/p>\n

+ Tobacco companies
\n+ Most retailers — except those with their own proprietary products and there are precious few of them.
\n+ Stocks that jump hugely on earnings (last two years)<\/p>\n

\"tif\"<\/a><\/p>\n

+ Companies caught in Trump’s crosshairs, e.g. Harley Davidson, Pfizer, and Ford.<\/p>\n

\"hog\"<\/a><\/p>\n

\"pfe\"<\/a><\/p>\n

\"Ford\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Little Rosie got attacked by a big dog on the weekend.\u00a0 Rosie’s right eye got bitten and is now in bad, but mending shape.<\/p>\n

My friend is on a crosswalk<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

A van barrels around the corner and hits him. He lands in hospital with concussion, a fractured skull and serious brain bleed. He’s coming home today from three weeks in the hospital which have left him terribly weak. It’s been so bad he can’t watch TV or read.<\/p>\n

I don’t know what the lesson of this story is. It wasn’t his fault. He was in the pedestrian crosswalk. He’s 75. My heart is with him and his wife. She’s my travel agent of over 40 years. She’s totally delightful.<\/p>\n

Accidents happen. Please be careful.<\/p>\n

If you were with Time Warner<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Check your new bill.\u00a0Spectrum<\/strong> will have substantially raised your bill, with all sorts of nonsense charges.<\/p>\n

My bill more than tripled. Go figure.<\/p>\n
