More every day Boeing agonies<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

+\u00a0Norwegian Air Shuttle, China Eastern Airlines and Aeroflot are among at least six airlines to say they are seeking compensation from Boeing, while Garuda Indonesia said it wants to cancel an order for 49 of the 737 MAX jets because passengers had lost confidence in the plane.<\/p>\n

+\u00a0On Monday,\u00a0China Aircraft Leasing Group<\/span>\u00a0, or CALC, a Hong Kong-based lessor controlled by state-run Chinese financial-services company China Everbright Group Co., said 737 MAX deliveries due to start in the third quarter of this year would be delayed as Boeing works to fix the problems with the aircraft. CALC ordered 75 of the jets in 2017 and 2018, with an option for 25 more.<\/span><\/p>\n

But Boeing has a lot of fans and it’s up strongly today. Go figure.<\/p>\n

Unintended consequences<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Perversely, President Trump’s anti-immigrant rhetoric has helped supercharge the pipeline of migrants from Honduras, Guatemala and El Salvador. Smugglers lately have been buying radio ads in Central America, warning that Mr. Trump is about to shut down all immigration. If you ever want to go to the United States, they say, go now!<\/p>\n

We visit Hudson Yards<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The largest real estate development in America. $25 billion.<\/p>\n

To me, it’s a larger Time Warner Center. Which is not surprising since it’s the brainchild of Steve Ross’s Related Group, which also did Time Warner.<\/p>\n

It’s huge, glitzy and worth a visit. You get there by New York subway’s number 7 train and arrive at a new clean, modern station. Hudson Yards has shops, restaurants, apartments and offices. The anchor tenant is a huge three-story Neiman Marcus — the Dallas upscale department store. Susan bought herself a nice Celine bag. I couldn’t find anything, except a pair of The Theory<\/em> lightweight pants that were too short. (Maybe I was too long?)<\/p>\n

We had dinner at the Hudson Yards Grill and ate mediocre, pricey hamburgers.<\/p>\n

We both agree we won’t probably return to Hudson Yards for eating or for shopping, which we’re not big on. But my sister, Barbara, loves shopping. She’ll get off on the shopping.<\/p>\n

This thing is called the Vessel. It’s a word of art, which you can climb if you have a free ticket.
\n\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Like the Eiffel Tower, it’s becoming a wedding destination. These two are getting married in a month in New Jersey. They’re here for an “Engagement Shoot,” replete with two photographers and megabucks of impressive cameras.<\/p>\n

Neiman Marcus has lot of pricey shoes. These blue ones were $950. The ones below ranged up to $1,200.<\/p>\n

For the plebs among us, Hudson Yards also has H&M. Lots of light and lots of marble walkways.<\/p>\n

As you amble around, you find the window shopping isn’t very interesting. You can find the stuff at a zillion other places in Manhattan — with the exception of Neiman’s shoes and some gorgeous women’s clothing.<\/p>\n

Coming to New York as a tourist, here are my favorite retail things to visit:<\/p>\n

+ The Nike store on Fifth Avenue.<\/p>\n

+ The Uniqlo store two blocks up on Fifth. My favorite item is their down vest, now selling for $39.90.<\/p>\n

+ B&H Photo store on ninth and 34th Street.<\/p>\n

+ The Time Warner Center on Columbus Circle.<\/p>\n

+ Hudson Yards on 34th Street. Take the number 7 train from the 42nd Street station. (Don’t go on a windy day.)<\/p>\n
