Investors seem to be in love with Boeing. I am presently short Boeing stock and am losing a few bucks, though it’s down today. On Wednesday, Boeing will report its financials and talk about the outlook for its biggest-selling 737 MAX and now its troubled Dreamliner. I’m guessing the stock will fall a little more.<\/p>\n UNH’s stock has been hit with “Medicare for All”<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n UnitedHealth, Cigna, Anthem, and others have weakened on fear of Medicare for All. Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren are pushing Medicare for All, which means there won’t be a place for a private insurance company, like UnitedHealth. Personally, I don’t think there’ll be Medicare for All, but I could see Medicare being expanded to 55-years and older Presently you only qualify if you’re 65. Barrons thinks UNH is a bargain. I am wary for five reasons:<\/p>\n + I don’t like the product. I try it regularly every ten years. I tried it recently. it was boring. If I want kicks, I’ll play tennis.<\/p>\n + Too many laws. Too much government regulation.<\/p>\n + Too easy to grow. Price per pound has dropped and dropped and dropped.<\/p>\n + Too much hype. Very similar to crypto-currencies. Huge volatility. Who has the time to follow the volatility?<\/p>\n + I don’t understand most companies’ business models. I don’t have the time nor the inclination to learn them. But that’s me. Maybe not you.<\/p>\n Variations of these five “NO” reasons should keep us out of unfamiliar, but hyped territory. Use the reasons to assuage your guilt (envy?) at not getting rich on all the stocks (like biotech and bitcoin) your friends are.<\/p>\n The state took over the <\/b>ownership<\/b><\/span>\u00a0of Notre-Dame in 1909.<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n Everyone and their uncle have known the 800-year old church was a fire trap.<\/p>\n Yet all obvious fire prevention tools — like installing a sprinkler system or a sophisticated fire detection system — were ignored.<\/p>\n The priests insisted that entry be free — though charging $4 a visitor could easily have brought in $100 million a year — enough to make necessary fixes.<\/p>\n To get money, the priests had to go cap in hand to the State, which, like all states, is short of money and dealing with the fact that church membership is declining.<\/p>\n Good news: Billionaires have fronted with over a billion euros to rebuild the place. But these monies are upsetting France’s poorer people who feel left out of the economic riches and have been demonstrating in recent months.<\/p>\n Churches are under attack in France.
