Many weren&#8217;t. Some places are passing user friendly &#8220;no-pay, no eviction&#8221; regulations, without understanding that rents go to pay local taxes, street cleaning, garbage removal, etc. It&#8217;s the classic &#8220;cutting off your nose to save your face.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">There are two aspects to saving this economy:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px; text-align: left;\">\u00a0 + The huge monies committed by the Fed and Congress.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px; text-align: left;\">\u00a0 + The speed and efficiency of getting it into people&#8217;s and companies&#8217; pockets.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The verdict&#8217;s not in &#8212; but speed and efficiency will make the difference between some sort of recovery and a depression caused by all the\u00a0 unemployment.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">I&#8217;m skeptical.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">I remember Ronald Reagan&#8217;s quip, &#8220;I&#8217;m from the Government and I&#8217;m here to help you.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The Administration&#8217;s response to the Covid pandemic has been depressingly pathetic.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Read <em>The Atlantic&#8217;s<\/em> well-researched piece:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px; text-align: left;\"><strong>This Is Trump&#8217;s Fault<\/strong><br \/>\nThe president is failing, and Americans are paying for his failures.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Click <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theatlantic.com\/ideas\/archive\/2020\/04\/americans-are-paying-the-price-for-trumps-failures\/609532\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>here.<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Sunday&#8217;s <em>New York Times<\/em> kicked off with:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>He Could Have Seen What Was Coming: Behind Trump&#8217;s Failure on the Virus<\/strong><br \/>\nAn examination reveals the president was warned about the potential for a pandemic but that internal divisions, lack of planning and his faith in his own instincts led to a halting response.<\/p>\n<p>Click <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2020\/04\/11\/us\/politics\/coronavirus-trump-response.html?searchResultPosition=3\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>here.<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong style=\"color: #0000ff;\">For a simple explanation, try this:<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-50272\" src=\"https:\/\/www.technologyinvestor.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/iceberg-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"450\" height=\"571\" \/><br \/>\nWhere are stocks going?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">This is the last three months in the S&amp;P 500. Notice the big bounce that began on March 23. My learned friend Mark Lev quipped &#8220;<em>Dead Cat Bounce<\/em>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-50273\" src=\"https:\/\/www.technologyinvestor.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/SP3Months.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"645\" height=\"354\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">I find it hard to see this bounce continuing. It&#8217;s anyone&#8217;s guess.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">When in doubt, stay out. Or at least be extremely wary.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>Trying to figure it all out with God and the Rapture<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">I found this in my weekend reading. I can&#8217;t remember where. But it explains a lot (at least to me):<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px; text-align: left;\">They&#8217;re also known as Rapture Christians, thanks to their conviction that before things start to get really ugly on the earth, with God-sent wars and plagues far worse than COVID-19, they&#8217;ll be wafted up to heaven en masse, to live in eternal peace, bliss, and moral superiority while everyone else &#8212; including lesser Christians &#8212; suffers years&#8217; worth of unspeakably gruesome torments prior to the final, earth-destroying battle between Warrior Jesus and Satan at Armageddon, and the Final Judgment in which Jews and others who refuse to convert are condemned to eternal torture in hell. (There are different timelines and versions, and end-time predictions are always evolving, but this one is currently most in vogue.) As Pompeo put it, in a Kansas church in 2015, the future looks like a &#8220;never-ending struggle . until the Rapture. Be part of it. But he&#8217;s alive and his wife can now speak to him.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">You don&#8217;t want what he got.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>Getting back to work<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Despite what Mr. Trump wants, I doubt I&#8217;ll be back in New York City before Christmas. The key is ramping up testing.
