I study the virus \u201cscene.\u201d I am now convinced Susan and I could be quarantining for another year right where we are now \u2013 without going traveling anywhere. To wit:<\/p>\n

1.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 There is no cure.<\/p>\n

2.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 There is no vaccine.<\/p>\n

3.\u00a0 \u00a0 There is little contact tracing. Hence outbreaks are hard to stop.<\/p>\n

4.\u00a0 \u00a0 The Administration has completely stepped away from having any role in dealing with this pandemic. Amongst other useful goals: It’s focused on planning next week’s election rally in Tulsa.<\/p>\n

5.\u00a0 \u00a0Everyone and their uncle has cabin fever, and are taking their personal precautions less seriously \u2013 not wearing masks, not six foot distancing, not regular hand washing etc. Hence, there will be a second wave. Apparently it’s already happened this morning. (I wrote this Sunday. The second wave will be more serious than the one we\u2019re in at present.<\/p>\n

6.\u00a0 \u00a0Getting Covid-19 sucks. The disease is just plain awful. Even if you don\u2019t die from it, you clearly don\u2019t want it. Whether you’re young or old. But Susan and I are in the most vulnerable demographic. If we get it, we could die. What would we do for an encore?<\/p>\n

I\u2019m perfectly happy rattling around our comfortable house in Columbia County, NY for the next 12 months without going anywhere \u2013 like places we’d planned on visiting — Hawaii, Europe and Australia.<\/p>\n

Susan and I have thought about swapping our New York apartment for a smaller, cheaper one. New York City ain\u2019t going to be New York — theater, business meetings, conventions, seminars, restaurants, ballet, shopping, fun friends\u00a0 — for years.<\/p>\n

Our apartment in New York City has dropped in value. But our house in the county has risen in value. I doubt that one rise will match the other’s drop.<\/p>\n

The New Normal<\/em> is where we are today. And where we\u2019ll be in 12 months.<\/p>\n

I’m not depressed. Long-term my favorite city, New York, will bloom. It always has. For that forecast, I’m grateful to Taylor Swift:<\/p>\n
