Explosive growth or “normal” growth?<\/p>\n

This charts VGT — explosive growth — against the VTI, which is S&P500 “normal” growth.<\/p>\n

The price of explosive growth is volatility. That’s a polite way of saying agita. Here’s the last five days. Notice the blue line – VGT — is a roller coaster. I was very depressed yesterday when my tech stocks — as embodied in the VGT EFT — fell heavily. They’re back a bit today.<\/p>\n

Tech stocks are valued by buzz and growth. Cramer gave a shout-out last night for Williams-Sonoma (WGM). It’s up 9% today. Buzz. He also gave a shout-out for AppHarvest (APPH). It’s up 2% today.<\/p>\n

I used to think that growth in sales and earnings was key. It is still. But…<\/p>\n

Here are two hot tech companies I own. This is two years. The brown line is HUBS, which is doing better than PayPal.<\/p>\n

Now, look at the financials. This is PayPal.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

This is HUBS, i.e. Hubspot. Notice anything different? It’s losing money.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Makes no sense.<\/p>\n

Then there are “fashions.” The recent fashions — SPACs, cannabis, electric cars, assorted batteries, Gamestop, bitcoin and the myriad of recent IPOs — have been sucking money from stocks we like and don’t want to sell — Apple, Amazon, Nvidia, Paypal Tesla, Generac, Facebook and Disney.<\/p>\n

Over the past six months, at least 35 companies that were founded in the San Francisco Bay area — including Airbnb, DoorDash and Snowflake — have gone public for a combined market value of $446 billion.<\/p>\n

There were two Teslas parked in the sleepy town of Chatham, NY early this morning.<\/p>\n

We live in interesting times. Maybe.<\/p>\n

Email is good for ONLY two things:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

1. Confirming something — an agreement or an appointment.<\/p>\n

2. Complimenting someone on a job well done, (but not their beauty).<\/p>\n

All other things — like negotiations — are best done on the phone, or Zoom.<\/p>\n

Poisons<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0+ Sugar
\n+ Salt
\n+ Fat
\n+ Red meat
\n+ Bread<\/p>\n

If I give up all these things, I’ll live forever, a very boring life.<\/p>\n

Life style<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

1. Napping is best. But figuring out when you sleep soundest — and then sleeping then is the best. I like afternoons.<\/p>\n

2. If you hate doing something — like assembling K-1s — use that energy to do something you’ve always wanted to do. Clean the attic.<\/p>\n

Technology<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

+ You can find the answer to anything on the Internet.
\n+ You can see how to fix anything (even my backhand) on YouTube.
\n+ If something suddenly goes awry, it’s probably one of two things — the cable or the latest “update” from Microsoft. To wit:<\/p>\n

I’ve read about “Long Covid.” It frightens me. Months and months of bad stuff.<\/p>\n

Hence I wear a mask, wash my hands and avoid people.<\/p>\n
