I look at this week’s losses and puke.<\/p>\n

Our losses in tech stocks have been much larger than in other “normal” stocks.<\/p>\n

Today Nasdaq is down nearly four times the Dow.<\/p>\n

But I take comfort that we made the right decision to go with tech stocks.<\/p>\n

Here’s the last two years of tech stocks (in blue<\/strong><\/span>), versus the S&P 500 (in green<\/strong><\/span>) versus the Dow (in brown<\/span><\/strong>).<\/p>\n

And I realize I’m “up” far more than than my losses of the last couple of awful weeks.<\/p>\n

In short, I’m playing with the bank’s money. While my paper losses are painful, I’m grateful for:<\/p>\n

+ My family. They’re all healthy and all vaccinated — except for one grandchild, who’s too young.<\/p>\n

+ My health and condition. For someone my age, playing tennis every day has kept me moving. Moving is the key.<\/p>\n

+ I don’t borrow to buy stocks, or to buy anything. I know leverage can juice your returns, but it can decimate your net worth when markets are falling, as they are now.\u00a0 I suspect that margin calls are a huge contributor to this present decline.<\/p>\n

I’m also grateful that none of our family is stupid.<\/p>\n

To wit, today’s New York Times<\/em> has an obituary for Marcus Lamb,\u00a0a founder of the Texas-based Christian television network Daystar,. Marcus has been dismissive of Covid-19 vaccinations. He died on Tuesday after contracting the coronavirus. He was 64.<\/p>\n

Instead of\u00a0getting vaccinated, he said \u201cwe can pray, we can get ivermectin and budesonide and hydroxychloroquine,\u201d referring to several drugs that have not<\/strong> been approved for Covid treatment by the Food and Drug Administration. He denounced vaccination mandates for schoolchildren.<\/p>\n

Last\u00a0month,\u00a0on a Daystar show<\/a>, Jonathan Lamb said his father\u2019s Covid infection had resulted from \u201ca spiritual attack from the enemy.\u201d<\/p>\n

Yup, that’s it. A spiritual attack.<\/p>\n

We should give thanks for technology and its number one accomplishment of the last 18 months:<\/p>\n

Stupid advice<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Buy the dip and sell the rally? Are you nuts?<\/p>\n

Here’s Apple over the last five days. Where would you buy and where would you sell?<\/p>\n

You’d lose your shirt.\u00a0\u00a0Apple got hit with rumors that sales of its magnificent iPhone 13 were flagging. Who knew.<\/p>\n

Mildly bad rumors are taken as disasters in this market.<\/p>\n

Here’s Nasdaq over the same five days. It got hit by news of the first Omicron victim. It was predictable that one idiot would turn up. (There are now many more.) But that the news would have such a huge impact on tech stocks….? Who knew.<\/p>\n

Put your life insurance on autopay<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n
