And some good news: More rocketry and ammunition coming in from the west, with Germany stepping up big-time.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Putin&#8217;s beef is the breakup of the Soviet Union. He has put his nuclear forces on alert. No one knows what he&#8217;ll do next. Genuine madness is in the cards.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">He&#8217;s listening only to the demons rattling around in his own head.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">I believe there are safe ways to send the Ukrainians some money. And the good news is it\u2019s never too late to get started.\u00a0Here are five tips to keep in mind.<\/p>\n<ol style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<li>\n<p class=\"css-1xh7jop\"><strong class=\"css-193g24a\" data-testid=\"bold\">Avoid processed meat.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1xh7jop\">A number of studies have found associations between eating a lot of processed meats and poor health.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1xh7jop\">A Harvard review found that eating one serving a day of processed meats like bacon, sausage and deli meats was associated with a 42 percent higher risk of heart disease and 19 percent increased risk of diabetes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1xh7jop\">Other research has implicated processed meats in a higher risk for colon cancer.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"css-1xh7jop\"><strong class=\"css-193g24a\" data-testid=\"bold\">Eat blue (and other colors).<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1xh7jop\">While you shouldn\u2019t plan your health around any one \u201csuper food,\u201d there\u2019s a lot to be said for eating blueberries. One study found that eating the equivalent of a cup of blueberries a day lowered blood pressure.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1xh7jop\">Most of us can\u2019t eat a daily cup of blueberries. But the lesson is to add darkly colored fruits and vegetables \u2014 blueberries, cherries, spinach and kale \u2014 to your diet. They are loaded with nutrients, fiber and carotenoids.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"css-1xh7jop\"><strong class=\"css-193g24a\" data-testid=\"bold\">Skip packaged foods.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1xh7jop\">How do you know if a food is processed? One good indicator is if it comes in a package that has to be ripped open. Think chips, granola bars, junk food, fast food, frozen pizza, etc.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1xh7jop\">There are, of course, some exceptions to the rule. Some whole, unprocessed foods that are good for you come in packages by necessity. Think nuts, eggs, olive oil and milk to name a few.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"css-1xh7jop\"><strong class=\"css-193g24a\" data-testid=\"bold\">Try to live by the one ingredient rule.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1xh7jop\">If a packaged food contains only one ingredient (ground turkey, for instance) it\u2019s probably a reasonable choice.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"css-1xh7jop\"><strong class=\"css-193g24a\" data-testid=\"bold\">What about supplements?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1xh7jop\">Study after study has seemed to debunk the benefit of taking supplements.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1xh7jop\">The best advice: Save the money you would spend on them and invest in a new pair of walking shoes, a gym membership or a delicious healthy meal with your family and other loved ones.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1xh7jop\">All of those are likely to do more for your emotional and physical health than a supplement.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">See you tomorrow, Monday &#8212; <em>Harry Newton<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This is not the world I wanted to leave to my children and grandchildren.
