Its Fat Bear Week."},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>Not big on the Metaverse\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">One of my most profitable shorts is Meta, also known as Facebook.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Zuck changed Facebook to Meta and made hay with the metaverse as a way (at that time) to deflect Facebook&#8217;s political ails away from the fake news posts on Facebook that were affecting U.S. elections, e.g. Russian interference in the election of Donald Trump.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Zuck has dumped mega-money into its metaverse &#8212; with little of value to show. Except, he did keep Congress off his back. I guess that was worth billions.\u00a0There&#8217;s been much written on the metaverse. I found this quote:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px; text-align: left;\">This reminded me of Neal Stephenson\u2019s 1992 science-fiction novel, \u201cSnow Crash,\u201d in which the term \u201cmetaverse\u201d was introduced to describe a digital space where people could escape their dismal realities. The book\u2019s protagonist, Hiro, is a laid-off pizza deliveryman who, with his roommate, lives in a storage unit.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The New York Times has published a piece:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px; text-align: left;\"><strong>Skepticism, Confusion, Frustration: Inside Mark Zuckerberg&#8217;s Metaverse Struggles<br \/>\n<\/strong>Meta&#8217;s push to develop virtual and augmented reality technology has had a bumpy year.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">You can read it <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2022\/10\/09\/technology\/meta-zuckerberg-metaverse.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>here.<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Meta has fallen hugely in the last year:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-59212\" src=\"https:\/\/www.technologyinvestor.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/meta-one-year.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"403\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">There&#8217;s lots of talk about introducing &#8220;friction&#8221; into Facebook posts &#8212; like asking the person posting if they&#8217;ve actually read what they&#8217;re posting &#8212; but Zuck fired the employee pushing for friction. He opted to take as many unchecked ads as possible. There are lots of them.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">His clients believe beautifying their houses is a much better investment than the stockmarket &#8212; even if they&#8217;re paying more for materials, appliances, etc.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>It&#8217;s Fat Bear Week in Alaska<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The bears have to pig out. They have to gain weight for their long winter hibernation.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The world is now betting on which bear will become the fattest.
