Another great Podcast from Acquired<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n They just debuted their latest podcast and described it thus:<\/p>\n Renaissance Technologies is the best performing investment firm of all time. And yet no one at RenTec would consider themselves an “investor”, at least in any traditional sense of the word. It’d rather be more accurate to call them scientists – scientists who’ve discovered a system of math, computers and artificial intelligence that has evolved into the greatest money making machine the world has ever seen. And boy does it work: RenTec’s alchemic colossus has posted annual returns in the firm’s flagship Medallion Fund of 68% gross and 40% net over the past 34 years, while never once losing money. (For those keeping track at home, $1,000 invested in Medallion in 1988 would have compounded to $46.5B today. if you’d been allowed to keep it in.) Tune in for an incredible story of the small group of rebel mathematicians who didn’t just beat the market, but in the words of author Greg Zuckerman “solved it.”<\/p>\n Listen to Acquirer’s podcast wherever you get podcasts from. I am in love with Acquired’s podcasts.<\/p>\n Great new travel technology<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n I have zillions of wonderful Anker gadgetry.\u00a0 Here’s their latest:<\/p>\n It’s a darling little power supply which will pump 65 watts to my laptop and charge my iPhone and my Apple Watch.<\/p>\n It’s small. Here it is next to the chunky power adapter for my favorite ThinkPad X1 Carbon. This Anker thing will power virtually all laptops and tablets, even yours. What’s most impressive is its teeny tiny size. I no longer have to carry my clunker.<\/p>\n The Anker thing costs $39.28. You’ll need cables. I’m guessing yo have plenty. Get Anker power adapter here.<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n Latest techie info<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n We all work from home. Hence urgent to get up to speed on all the techie nonsense. So here goes:<\/p>\n No tech provider has decent on-line or on-phone tech support.\u00a0 Not one. NetGear is the worst.<\/p>\n Even waiting two hours on the phone won’t get an intelligent answer.<\/p>\n The only things that works is rebooting, resetting, and resynching. Do this on all your connected devices. Wait a minute for it all to work.<\/p>\n If that doesn’t work, try again. And again. And again.<\/p>\n Other areas to check: Cables, power, circuit breakers, your printer’s toner cartridge — it is seated correctly?<\/p>\n Try not to\u00a0 use Wi-Fi for serious work.
