Passion is the word that best describes a successful business.<\/p>\n

We had a dinner last night at The Joel Palmer House in Dayton, Oregon. The family’s doyen spends his leisure moments traisping the Oregon surrounds for mushrooms, which he cooks into truly delicious dishes. Mushrooms he finds and uses include: Porcini, suillus, black trumpet, black and white chanterelle, morels, lobster mushroom, (tastes like lobster) and candy cap mushrooms — which he uses in deserts. They’re sweet. I kid you not. A sweet mushroom.<\/p>\n

We visited a couple of wineries for tasting. I don’t drink which makes for an interesting visit. I get to do the driving. I\u00a0 marvel at the words they use to describe their concoctions:<\/p>\n

Harry Newton who wonders why he’s told to “smell the roses,” when most don’t smell. This area — about 40 miles south of Portland in the Willamette Valley — is loaded with roses that have no aroma. Personally I like tuberoses. They’re not roses. But they sure smell. And good, too.<\/p>\n
