Good time to have a little money on the sidelines.

Ultra-short column today since I am off for an early morning cortisone shot in my shoulder.

Gives excitement a whole new meaning.

Only (meager) things I’ve learned from my shoulder:

+ Don’t pick up heavy stuff.

+ Play tennis with intelligence, not strength. In other words, stop trying to whack the ball like the pros do on TV.

+ Get my exercise from other activities, like bicycling, swimming and running on a treadmill.

+ Stay in shape and rested.

Apple debuts its iPad mini this afternoon. That should help the stock. Pre-reviews have been good. Trading Apple stock doesn’t work. The stock rises and falls for reasons that are largely unfathomable. If you believe in Apple, the idea is to buy and hold it. And perhaps eye a big 20% stop loss.

Lewis Black Talks on The Daily Show. OK. I admit.I like Jon Stewart and I particularly like Lewis Black. Here’s Mr. Black on Lance Armstrong and Butt Chugging. It’s funny. Click here.

Harry Newton doesn’t like third quarter earnings, especially from tech stocks. This is a good time to have money on the sidelines. Get rid of those stocks you’re not comfortable with.

Unfathomable is a good word not only for Apple for the market. How do you deal rationally with an entity that is unpredictably emotional? Not saying you can’t make money, some people ride this bronco with success…

I just watched Lewis Black…I can’t stop laughing! Thanks Harry for sharing!
