I’m writing this sitting in a medieval alleyway in tourist-trap Sienna, Italy. The place is booming (with tourists) . The restaurants are full (with Italians and tourists). That’s my learned on-site summary of Italy’s economy.
Most importantly, all my family is healthy and happy, with the only disagreements being about which road to follow. Google gives directions in road numbers. Italian signs are by names or streets, not numbers. We got a toll for $60 because we drove up and down on the A1 without exiting — though we entered and left by the same exit. They assumed we started somewhere in North Africa. Our one toll boosted the Italian economy.
The point of all this nonsense is I’m not writing another column until next Tuesday when we’re back in New York and we’re no longer admiring the perfect investments of the 13th and 14th centuries — namely churches, cathedrals and duomos.
Ciao.

Harry be very careful about driving into city centers that are posted for non-circulation without a permit. You will be photographed and fined. A hotel will be able to inform you. BTW it’s Siena- Sienna is the car.. Asian car manufacturers love to make up or mangle “Italian” sounding names.
On this upcoming most American of holidays, the Fourth of July, I would have guessed the ex-pat Aussie posing as an American investment guru would be in a foreign country. You make Ed Snowden look patriotic.
Yet, “Cliff” manages to keep coming back and trolling in the comments section where he NEVER contributes a single idea worth a penny. How patriotic! They must be fumigating where you crawl, “Cliff”….must be why you came out here….for some fresh air!
Actually, in between the vitriol, I have contributed some market tips that have proven very valuable to the few astute readers of this blog. Although I chide Harry, he’s a smart man who recognizes that I have a stellar record for buying at opportune times, like near the bottom in 2008-09, and, in early 2012. It’s not that I’m smart, just that I follow the teachings of those who are – Benjamin Graham and Warren Buffett. Sorry you’ve missed my wealth-making tips on here, “Mile High.” That must be frustrating.
I think it was more of the fact that you’re kinda a penis, cliff.
Ah, but a very wealthy one, Ar. You coulda been, too, if you’d listened instead of just coming on Harry’s blog and posting your negativism.
Oh, no “cliff” you NEVER have given ANY ideas worth a penny. All you have done is talk about what you supposedly DID long after you “did” them while you tear apart Harry’s ideas. By the way, I know that you are the same person who used the name “Ronald Reagan” before last November. Your trolling DNA is very loud and clear in your writing. Most of us here come because we like reading what Harry shares with us and when we disagree with him, we exchange ideas. As a troll, you appear to thrive on your vitriol and insults. If you had ideas to share, you would not have the time to write the trash you regularly write. If you would give civility a chance, you would get a lot more out of this and spare the rest of us from your usual muck. Last I checked, most of us are overloaded with the muck that comes out of Washington, D.C…..and it’s not even cattle country out there!
You are a complete moron, Mile High. Not only have I not used “Ronald Reagan” I’m not even of the same party.
I’d suggest get pick up a book on grammar and spelling, not to mention Investing For Beginners this weekend.
FYI – Harry has asked me to write guest columns, or partial columns, for this blog, so apparently he feels my ideas are worth a penny. Or maybe even a buck.
Based on your name I assume you live in Denver. (Or maybe that you once had sex on a plane?) It’s a dreadful city. I can understand your bitterness.
You write “I’d suggest get pick up a book on grammar and spelling…” and you talk about grammar? That is hilarious, “Cliff”. I am sure your “wealth” that you mentioned in your reply to “AR” is just as laughable. Your denial about using the tag “Ronald Reagan” is about as believable as your claim “Harry has asked me to write guest columns…” I don’t think it was long ago that Harry expressed his frustrations with your trolling and stated that he was trying to figure out how to delete comments from you. I say that because I remember reading Harry’s words right here on this same blog. Not only are you a troll, it appears that you are a liar too. Why don’t you read through this page and see how civil every comment is. Why do you have to act like an orifice? Your parents didn’t teach you some manners? I bet “AR” hit it on the nose with his comment below, didn’t he? Oh, another lesson you should learn is that “AR” said what he said without being like you – an orifice!
Mile High – You’re a complete whack job. Angry, unstable and wrong. I remember seeing “Ronald Reagan” on here but it’s not me. But look at your post and the ones from the “AR” that you’re always complimenting. Same bad grammar, same outrage, same in your face attitude – you are AR.
If I were you, I’d pick up a dictionary and look up the meaning of “orifice” which you misused. You are an abject nutball who obviously has anger issues and, I’m guessing,a criminal record.
I wish I had time to read your entire novellas, I mean “comments” but I do not. I am busy. I assume you’re retired and/or unemployed. I’d suggest putting all your free time to better use. Instead of long, rambling diatribes against “Ronald Reagan” maybe spend more time with your wife. Although based on your anger I’m guessing she left you for somebody with more money. Someone like me.
And,Mile High, buddy, there’s a new thing that can be applied to writing. It’s called a PARAGRAPH. Google it.
In case you are suffering from selective memory loss, “cliff”, I encourage you to look at Harry’s May 24, 2013 column where her talks about having figured out how to remove “irksome comments”….and the only name that appears is….drum roll, please……..”cliff”
I suggest you rush to your local Walmart before the sale is over…and get a clue!
Cheers!
“Some People” do call Snowden a patriot, “cliff”. He was called a patriot on the Limbaugh program.
Nasty ugly comment. Does it reflect the author?
We are spending this “Christmas in a Castle” in Italy does that make us un-Christian or are we just wondering if Santa Claus wears a suit of armor?
“If you have a heart and a shirt, sell your shirt and go to Italy!”
Caution if you wonder up into Austria with a rental car. We were fined 120 euros for not having a sticker on our windshield…never did learn how we were to have obtained a “sticker” or what it may have been for. The cop was armed so I did not argue for too long…I just paid -up and drove on…I did demand a receipt in the event we were tagged again…nothing more than a tourist rip-off! Happy motoring. We will miss you.
