Taking a measure. Go figure.

Greece has 11 million people. It’s much smaller than our larger cities, like New York and LA.

Tourists are flocking to Niagara Falls, which is frozen because it’s bloody cold up there.

A robbery suspect was glad to see police arrive after a chase through North Dallas streets ended with him being beaten by a female motorist whose vehicle he rear-ended.

Apple’s watch due soon won’t have all its much-touted health features like being able to monitor blood pressure, heart activity and stress levels, etc. The Wall Street Journal is wondering anyone will buy the device — other than it’s Apple and pretty. Worth reading. Click here. I personally have no interest in Apple’s watch since it will be heavy and need charging once a day. I love my old, lightweight Timex, which just keeps on ticking. Five years on one battery. A miracle of 1970s technology.

I spent an hour (again) on the phone with Time Warner getting them to give me the Internet speed they had promised way back in November. It’s hard to feel any enthusiasm for their “merger” with Comcast. Two wrongs will make a “right?”

Little private companies offer the path to great wealth. That’s the theory. They are often the path to great frustration, as none are bound by SEC reporting requirements — like regular reports. It’s possible to give your hard-earned money to a hot company and not hear anything for years — no monthly  reports, no quarterly reports… not even an annual report. If you do ever speak to the CEO on the phone, he’ll tell you everything in honky-dorey. Which it probably won’t be.

A chapter from my forthcoming book, “Never rely on anyone else to make you rich or happy.

Very interesting piece on a father with a baby too young to be immunized against measles. My daughter and son both have babies too young to be fully immunized. It’s a nightmare for them. Read the Rolling Stone piece called Anti-Vaxxers: Enjoying the Privilege of Putting Everyone at Risk here.

Go to a dermatologist and get your back checked out. If you don’t believe that it needs checking, have someone photograph your back. Check out all the new funny-looking things. They probably don’t belong and should be removed ASAP. A friend died from a mole on his back he neglected. It was melanoma. I don’t make this up.

Getting this new California house set up has been horribly time-consuming. Time Warner has actually been benign compared to some of the contractors who say they’re coming and don’t show.

We bought our dinner last night at Whole Foods in Palm Desert. They really do a good job. And the stock is soaring

I repeat yesterday’s wonderful cartoon, in case you missed it.

For the weekend:

Welsh tourism:

On a beautiful summer’s day, two American tourists were driving through Wales.

At Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwyllllantysiliogogoch they stopped for lunch.

One of the tourists asked the waitress, ‘Before we order, I wonder if you could settle an argument for us. Can you pronounce where we are, very, very, very slowly?’

The girl leaned over and slowly said, ‘Burrr gurrr king’.

The operation and the surgeon.

The Surgeon went to check on his blonde patient after an operation. She was awake, so he examined her.

“You’ll be fine,” he said.

She asked, “How long will it be before I am able to have a normal sex life again doctor?”

The surgeon seemed to pause, which alarmed the girl.

“What’s the matter Doctor? I will be all right, won’t I?”

He replied, “Yes, you’ll be fine. It’s just that no one has ever asked me that after having their tonsils out.”

Harry Newton, recovering from his Time Warner conversations. Oh yes, they did send the wrong equipment. Check. Check. Check.

When in doubt, check Amazon, they always have the right equipment.

Palm Desert area is perfect this time of year, just spent a week out there escaping the east coast freeze for a bit. Spent a lot of time at the Mission Hills Country club – golfing for me but you would really like the tennis facility there. Maybe you could even try a game of pickle ball. Are you renting or buying out there?
