Fit continues to do well.
Annaly and all the REITS do awfullly. Ouch. Fortunately we’re out.
I own five Vanguard funds and ETFs. I was checking their performance and perhaps looking for others. Here’s my present list.
Conclusion, so far: There’s remarkably little difference in their long-term performance, though VXF does stand out. The numbers come from Vanguard’s web site.
Need more work on this.
Allocation myths.
Walk into any broker, financial advisor, money manager with $1 million to invest. They’ll give you an allocation — so much to bonds, so much to equities, so much (usually very little) to cash. They follow a formula based on your age.
It’s nonsense and dangerous.
There are several reasons: Last year’s allocation doesn’t hold this year. No one would buy bonds today. Second, allocation is an opportunistic thing. Opportunities come along. You have to be ready with cash to jump on them.
Most brokers, financial advisors, money managers, etc. get paid as a percentage of your investments — not your cash. Hence it’s in their interests to get you fully invested asap.
Here’s a little cheat sheet. Print it. Carry in your wallet. Refer to it when you’re visiting or speaking.
That’s it. I’ll return to this.

Harry Newton who’s fiddling around with real estate investments today. Manhattan real estate remains in a humungous boom. Lots of Russians, Europeans and Chinese and sundry other rich folk fleeing their politicians’ idiocies and idiosyncrasies. It’s bad here. But it’s not as bad as there. Be thankful for a large mercy.

I like Vanguard but I find that over time Fidelity tends to out-perform Vanguard. I’ve owned plenty of both for 20 years. Re: Manhattan real estate, I just purchased an apartment off Central Park West. I’ve joined the club, Harry. I never touch my salary or personal investments for these things, and instead just used some of the family money we have since Dad invested with Warren Buffett in the late 1960s. Dad used to beat on us kids regularly and terrorized us, being an alcoholc and a heroin user. It was rare that a night went by without him bloodying one of us. But, he made us all very wealthy, and for his of his drinking, drugging, groping, fondling and philandering, I am proud of him because money is really all that matters.
Big Fan of Vanguard too! Vanguard Health Care Index has done well for me over the years.
