Catch a falling star? In a word NO.
Please review the orders you put in long, long ago at ultra-low prices, thinking you’d snag a bargain.
Beware those “bargains” are now cratering.
I snagged Netflix at $90, a bargain, except it’s now $87.32 and falling.
Not easy. My best holdings (of the remaining few) are Verizon, Google, a short on Apple and BSV (a short-term bond fund).
Today, there are no rising tides that carry all boats.
Yesterday a friend gave me a copy of “Thomas Jefferson and the Tripoli Pirates — the forgotten war that changed American history.”
It seems an appropriate book to read. Lots of pirates in the stockmarket. We need a Jefferson (??)
Forget about stocks for now, says ZeroHedge, They’re too pricey. Here’s a ZeroHedge chart:

Ted Cruz won Iowa by appealing to evangelicals. (Does that include Jews?)
He has something on his website called “Five for Freedom” which reads:
“Abolish the IRS, the Department of Education, the Department of Energy, the Department of Commerce, and the Department of Housing and Urban Development. A Cruz Administration will appoint heads of each of those agencies whose sole charge will be to wind them down and determine whether any programs need to be preserved..”
I’m hoping income tax is not a program that needs to be preserved.
Go Ted.

Harry Newton, who has friends who suddenly love gold, again. Here’s the last five years in gold. It s*cks. (I have to put the asterisk in because many subscribers have idiot IT departments who censor the word and won’t deliver my blog.)
Now Google is down 2.5% today! Yuch.

As a sales tax, the FAIRtax needs two to cheat, both the buyer and seller, so failing to pay the FAIRtax is against the law and it is also collusion. Plus the collection points reduced by 80% as the FAIRtax is collected at retail. Today it takes only one to cheat on taxes. I you want more info e-mail me at paulforfairtax at yahoo.com
Paul, bankid,
If you guys think changing the tax system to ANYTHING else will eliminate fraud, waste, and corruption, you are just fooling yourself. All it will do is change the way fraud, waste and corruption occurs. The bottom line is that the govt needs to extract a certain percentage from the hides of the productive. How it does it doesn’t matter. The solution is to decrease that percentage, not totally change how they extract it. Sure the tax system is convoluted, bloated and unfair to many, but it can be fixed, Reagan proved that. That is, it can be fixed, and then successive administrations start f*cking with it, and in another 30 years it will need to be fixed again. BTW the major problem with fairtax is that it will create a huge underground economy (there’s your fraud) unless an equally huge federal agency is created to deal with it (there’s your bloat), or perhaps the country moves to a cashless society (talk about corruption, jeez).
40% of the US economy is already underground.
If you think a stock is going down…sell it short with an upper top limit.
Thank you NYCBankid for your kind words. But the FLAT TAX still needs the IRS, direct taxation, annual filing and the 16th Amendment.
The federal tax code is a puzzle so big and complicated that it can not be solved. It was created by lobbyists, special interests and politicians and it is serving their interests. This puzzle is supposed to fund our government but creates many problems like tax evasion, tax inversion, fewer jobs and discouraging work and creativity. We need a new puzzle to fund our government with just two pieces, a progressive national sales/consumption tax and one tax break, called the Prebate that helps most the impoverished and lower income. Gone are direct taxation, IRS, payroll taxes, tax withholding, loopholes and the 16th Amendment.

Harry…..if Cruz wants to abolish the IRS then you need to understand that he must also be considering either the FLAT TAX or the FAIR TAX. I’m sure you understand the FLAT TAX but you should educate yourself about the FAIR TAX. I personally am very much in favor of the FAIR TAX, which essentially is nothing more than a National Sales Tax. Certainly the devil is in the details and especially with regards to business taxes (Value Added Tax…VAT Tax).
You give terrible advice. You hate everything but cash which pays zero. Not even CDs that pay 1.5%, but you recommend savings accounts. Yet you dispense your “advice” with such confidence. You do realize that real investors like myself laugh at this? You just go with the flow and the ignorant hordes; when things are bad you write “When in doubt, stay out.” When the market s peaking, you’re excited about finding new investments. YOU HAVE EVERYTHING BACKWARDS.
