Harry Newton. If you missed Friday’s blog which highlight’s Trump’s ‘huuge” accomplishment — namely that not one single major newspaper in the country has endorsed him for President, please click here.

By way of explanation, I never had the intention of turning this investment blog into a political blog. But many of Trump’s “policies” could have major negative consequences for our country. Two seriously disturb me — the trade war with China and Mexico,(amongst others), and the deportation of many millions, many of whom have serious jobs, are doing great work, are educating their children to be proud Americans and are paying taxes.

  1. Toby Bugfoot says:

Trump won that debate, boy. And who cares about turning this into a political blog? You know as much about politics as you do about investing. That’s not a compliment, boy.

  2. Fderfler says:

Harry, I can never change your mind about politics… I’m too seasoned to attempt it. BUT, regarding the things you are concerned about.. you are missing the biggest short/medium term threat… mainly because you, like all of us, are living in an echo chamber that does not admit dissonance.

IF you are worried about your investments, you need to be worried about a shooting war with Russia. Call me crazy, Harry, but remember my background.

We are eyeball-to-eyeball with the Russians over Syria BECAUSE of the US/EU/NATO push against the soft belly of Russia. There are armed jets.. not just some recon shit.. armed US and Russian fighters trailing and “spiking” (missile guidance radar lockup) each other. One bad switch setting and it’s “Fox One” followed by “Splash”. Followed by “Oh Shit”.

No, there is no big red “Reset” button. That was a horrid insult.

Overflights of Finland and Estonia—Estonia is in NATO… that’s a big deal–by Russian aircraft have become almost routine, an on-going demonstration of Kremlin disdain for Obama/Clinton/Kerry. But those aerial cat-and-mouse games are customarily done by slow, unarmed Russian planes, just to send a message to the Finns and Estonians to not get any ideas about disobeying Moscow.

This week, however, Putin upped the ante by sending armed fighter jets to intimidate Helsinki and Tallinn. Yesterday, two Su-27 fighters of the Russian air force overflew Finland. Their incursions were brief but, significantly, the Flankers were armed for combat.

Then, early this morning, another Flanker violated Estonian airspace—fully armed and with its transponder turned off. That is the definition of a “bogey”. Come at our carrier that way and you are dead. This incident, the fifth violation of Estonian airspace by the Kremlin so far this year, is significant since that country belongs to NATO. None of the Baltic republics have their own fighter jets. That’s handled by a composite Alliance squadron. If the Russians keep sending armed jets over Estonia, the odds of a confrontation with fighters from this squadron rise dramatically.

The phrase “Composite Alliance Squadron” is means that there are US Air Force crews.. OUR people.. my friends.. Active and Reserve.. sitting on alert in FAR Eastern Europe with fully armed fighters. They intercept the armed Russian aircraft. Ooops.. bump.. “Oh Shit”

The latest news comes from Estonian reports that the Russian military is sending Iskander-M missiles to Kaliningrad. Those are nukes. Remember, “Tell Vladimir I’ll have more flexibility after the election.” These nukes, aimed at Poland and beyond, are a direct result of “Tell Vlad..”

    Even Gorby is worried: https://www.yahoo.com/news/gorbachev-warns-dangerous-point-us-russia-ties-sour-090340767.html

The Russians are saying it everywhere. They are TRYING to be heard, but … NYT Echo Chamber blocks it. Note the phrase below “threatened Russia’s national security”: that’s code for “I’ve got the right to stomp your shit!”

MOSCOW (Reuters) – Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Sunday he had detected increasing U.S. hostility towards Moscow and complained about what he said was a series of aggressive U.S. steps that threatened Russia’s national security.

In an interview with Russian state TV likely to worsen already poor relations with Washington, Lavrov made it clear he blamed the Obama administration for what he described as a sharp deterioration in U.S.-Russia ties.

“We have witnessed a fundamental change of circumstances when it comes to the aggressive Russophobia that now lies at the heart of U.S. policy towards Russia,” Lavrov told Russian state TV’s First Channel.

On TV recently, speaking of BHO+Clinton+Kerry, Putin said, “I am of the impression that some of our American counterparts have porridge for brains.”
Preparing for the debate by watching SNL is beneath you. Why not go to the original source for information on the world? This video shows Putin describing his view of the US.

You continue to worry about the ridiculous campaign promises of nutsy US Politicians. While the world burns. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jd4qr2rW4lc

IF you ever want to discuss HOW things got so bad, I’d be happy to do that. It is a decades long story centered on Ukraine. But, of course, the explanation involves some of your favored folk along with asshats like John McCain and EU bankers. .

So ponder the headline” US and Russian Jets in Dogfight’… and apply that to your investment strategy.

    • Patriot says:

Are you saying that Trump is better for the US’ relations with Russia? Since the dissolution of the USSR, Putin has been trying to rebuild Russia as a “world power”. In reality, Russia is more like a third-world country with nuclear weapons than a true competitor to the US in terms of overall development.

Russia is desperate for attention and recognition on the world stage. “Gorby”, as you called him, recognized that there will be no winner declared after a nuclear war which may be what made him realize that his people are better of with a future that may give them a chance at a decent life than to be decimated as proud citizens, if they survived at all.

If anything, Trump is more dangerous than almost any human being. He, and only he, proved it countless times with his own word. Personally, I do not believe that the “scorched earth” approach will help anyone or any nation. While I do not like either one of the candidates, and Johnson seems to either be clueless or has eaten too many brownies/puffed too much of the ganja, we are screwed as citizens no matter who gets elected. With that having been stated, I think electing Trump significantly increases the chances of a serious conflict with Russia that could end up with a disaster for all of the world.

The simple test is, have we seen any person who has disagreed with Trump and was not subjected to insults? The man considers disagreements as direct personal attacks and reacts by launching endless attacks to discredit and silence those who publicly disagree with him. Imagine that when the possible fallout from his bruised ego could affect our entire nation. What are we to do? Hold our nose and vote for Clinton? Trust the bumbling Johnson and cross our fingers?

Remember, most politicians show how “tough” they are by sending other people’s children to war.

      • Barry Merchant says:

I believe you’re forgetting that Trump said he believes could work with Putin. HRC and the mainstream media condemned him for it. So who is more dangerous, really? Clinton is a proven war monger whereas Trump wants to negotiate……and he’s good at it.

    • Barry Merchant says:

Harry, “Most people don’t really want the truth. They just want constant reassurance that what they believe is the truth.” ~~ Unknown
But if you’re courageous enough to step outside the mainstream media echo chamber, try going to http://www.rt.com for a refreshing look at world events through Russian eyes. They’re not evil, and they’re not stupid. Putin makes more sense than Obama on many issues.

      • Harry Newton says:

On what issues does Putin make more sense than Obama?

        • Barry Merchant says:

The MSM treats Putin like they treat Trump. Whatever Putin says they spin in a way to make him look bad. Here’s just one example where his approach is more reasonable, rational and intelligent than our president.

Putin has said: “Violence only begets violence,” and the international community should operate as a united front to soothe the tensions in the Mideast. Looking at how well things have worked out in Iraq, Libya and in Syria, Putin claimed that bloody regime change only fuels further unrest. Doesn’t that make sense?

This video of Putin responding to CNN’s Fareed Zakaria in response to a question on Putin’s comments about Donald Trump is an example of a smart, rational, thinking person. Take a listen.
          https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JBTBBNOtbhM

Wouldn’t it make more sense for the U.S. to work with Russia rather than ramp up hostilities, which is what Obama (and Hillary Clinton) have been doing. Who would benefit from the Obama/Clinton approach…….besides the military industrial complex? Certainly not the people of the U.S. or Russia.

  3. Barry Merchant says:

Harry – Here’s what worries me:
Regarding immigration: Listen to Jason Chaffetz, Chairman of the House Oversight Committee regarding illegal aliens committing serious crimes and being released back into the U.S.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2QOwAJ2ez6U
This is simply stunning and HRC wants to bring in thousands more poorly vetted or unvetted aliens with a different culture, religion and values…….some of whom hate us.

Regarding China and Mexico: Donald Trump is right: Free trade deals like NAFTA have to be renegotiated or scrapped. They aren’t the sole reason America is losing millions of manufacturing jobs — we lost 5 million from 2000 through 2014 — but these agreements only make the problem worse. And with barely six in 10 Americans participating in the workforce today, according to the Council of Economic Advisers, we can’t afford to watch any more of our industries bleed away. Moreover, the U.S. has almost a $20 trillion debt and uncovered liabilities more than 10 times that amount. How much higher can those numbers go before the world loses faith in the U.S. dollar and it is succeeded by the Chinese renminbi as the world’s reserve currency? As in so many areas, we need change and with HRC we’re guaranteed to get more of the same.

  4. Lucky says:

many of whom have serious jobs, are doing great work, are educating their children to be proud Americans and are paying taxes.

THEN WHY DON’T THEY BECOME “LEGAL” AMERICANS…LEARN AND SPEAK ENGLISH AND SUPPORT THE AMERICAN FLAG?

    • Harry Newton says:

Because there are all sorts of laws, rules and regulations arrayed against them. Congress has been playing with Immigration Reform for eons and gone nowhere with it. As a result we have today’s mess.

      • Lucky says:

It is against the law for people to enter any country illegally or overstay their Visa…there are no laws to prevent immigrants of any legal status to learn and speak the language and respect the flag. You did!

        • Barry Merchant says:

You are correct, Lucky. We lived in Mexico for 7 years and if you even attended a political demonstration, you were deported. Trump is correct: “If you don’t have borders, you don’t have a country.”

    • JimBobToo says:

Get real. I have worked in European countries. The Amercians who work there are the worst (except for a few bright younger ones) at trying to emulate their host countries’ language. They are truly ugly americans. They don’t learn their language, speak their language, or support their flags either.
