Please enjoy the long weekend. Be happy to be alive. I am.

They did an experiment. Can you be happy with only 100 things?

I travel with fewer than 100 things.

Maybe there is merit here?

I went through my closet. I’m giving away everything I haven’t worn in the past 12 months. That’s my new rule.

My closet is emptier. I’m free.

To celebrate, I played 2 1/2 tennis.

William Kennedy, a reader, emails:

I am 80. Friday, Saturday and Sunday I have very nice breakfasts, diner, museum trips, political affairs to attend. Yes, all my friends are gone but my days are so busy I fall into bed to sleep. About 3 hours 5 days a week are taken uo at the Y in swimming 800 meters, treadmill 45 minutes fast enough to jog 5 or 6 minutes, and 40 minutes of weight lifting. I had my aortic valve replaced with a cow’s 2 years ago at Johns Hokpins. Busy and fun and love evry breathing minute tha ‘s what you MUST do.

This weekend, my wife and I have nobody to entertain, except ourselves. Think of all the exciting things we can do, like rest and not think about the stockmarket, the economy . I can even finish editing the wedding’s photos. Maybe I’ll watch a little tennis. Remember the US Open is on The Tennis Channel, ESPN2 and maybe CBS. You’ve got to fiddle it, since their broadcast schedules change.

It’s great to be alive.

I recently unloaded my huge wine cork collection that I was one day going to do something clever with to another “collector” who is actually gluing them to a wall-sized frame for her apartment's entry wall. I realized awhile ago that when I die, someone else will have to deal with my 'stuff' and I decided to lighten the load – feels great! Also read the book “It's all Too Much” by Peter Walsh, who puts it very clearly that you can live a richer life with much less.

    Hi Harry,

I'll take one of your cameras, and I could probably use one of your computers also. The trick is not to buy all the

    stuff just because you can.
