Everyone, please indulge me. I changed the software… It’s allegedly better.
I need everyone to glance through this email. If it came out OK, great.
If it didn’t, please forward the messed-up email to me: Harry@HarryNewton.com.
And I’ll keep working.
Imagine if I ran an airline and had these software problems…. Whoops, Delta did in the summer. Same software nonsense.
Lessons so far:
- If it works, don’t fix it.
- Don’t “upgrade” because the manufacturer tells you to upgrade. Item: I’m still using Microsoft Word 2003. It’s at least 13 years old. It works fine. I’m still using Windows 7, which I love.
- Too many cooks spoil the broth, especially in software.
- Before you — the boss — agree to any “improvements” in software, think many, many times. You’ll sleep better if you say NO. My favorite word is NO.
Once the FBI lifted the pall over Hillary, the markets boomed — Monday and today. Here’s the last five days:
Our two favorites: AMZN and FB did handsomely today.
Now back to today’s early morning column:
My friend, Steve, emails me this morning:
Four years ago, when it was Obama vs. Romney, I thought it was the most important election of our lifetime.
You and I can break the logjam in Washington: All 435 U.S. House of Representatives seats are up for election today. In the Senate 34 are up for election today.
I love this week’s cover.
Please vote for Hillary.
Revealed: Donald Trump’s greatest investment:
The story goes, country radio host Bobby Bones filed a trademark for the slogan before Trump’s team could earlier this year. He told Trump he would transfer the rights for the donation and a face-to-face chat with the presidential hopeful.
Donald Trump paid $100,000 to buy the rights to his campaign slogan ‘Make America Great Again.” The money was then donated to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
The slogan also is not original. Guess who used it?
The full story is in the U.K. Daily Mail.
Why Amazon is a great investment. It aggressively cuts prices on everything it invents, especially the cloud where its AWS (Amazon Web services) is larger (I believe) than all its competitors combined. And, of course, the Kindle, which our family loves.
The family all have Amazon Prime and, like everyone else who has Prime, buy too much stuff we don’t need:

These types of emails come daily. You can tell they’re suspicious: They’re from someone I don’t know. The attachment is a zip file. And there are typos.
In short, it smells. Delete emails like this instantly, if not sooner.
DSL is awful. Exede is better. This is the speed of my DSL line in Columbia County, about 127 miles north of NYC.
This is Kent’s speed in rural Maine. He uses Exede satellite and pays $80 a month. He says the service is much much better than Hughes Satellite, the competitor.

It’s very funny. Yesterday my “new, improved” software messed up the link. Try now. Click here.
Country scenes yesterday. Nice to look at something the politicians can’t mess up. Columbia County, New York State.

It could be worse
An older gentleman was on the operating table awaiting surgery.
His son, a renowned surgeon, was going to perform the operation.
He asked to speak to his son.
“Yes, Dad, what is it?”
“Don’t be nervous, son; Do your best,” the old man said.
“Just remember, If it doesn’t go well, your mother will come and live with you and your wife.”

Harry Newton, who played tennis yesterday like there was no tomorrow. I won the last set by hitting a running forehand down the line, past my opponent on the net. It's a cheap high. But it's a high. At my age, I'll take what I can get.

Will you continue your uninformed, immature, and vitriolic attacks on the President-elect Trump or will you help your fellow 1%ers heal and soldier on?
