Three new stock purchases and the prospect for tax reform — DOA

Don’t get your hopes up about tax reform.

The Administration wants to kill deductions (and the AMT) to pay for lower tax rates.

But it’s not flying.

Today’s New York Times leads with:

Lobbyists Rally to Save Tax Breaks Under Threat in Trump Plan

WASHINGTON – Republicans’ release of a sweeping plan to rewrite the tax code has set off a scramble among Washington lobbyists and trade groups to protect valuable tax breaks and other long-ingrained provisions.

The plan’s scant details make it hard to know what, exactly, is on the chopping block. But within hours of the plan’s unveiling on Wednesday, flash points emerged over measures that supporters said could hurt the housing market, raise borrowing costs and increase the tax burden on families in high-tax states — (like my family — Harry Newton)

Comparing to tax reform, healthcare reform is a piece of cake. A walk in the park?

This a classic strip mall.

Somebody spent all their savings to build this metziah (yiddish for bargain) at an exit on the Taconic Parkway in mid New York State.
It’s a handsome building, as strip malls go.

But it’s completely empty. What caught my eye was one tenant’s name.

I looked inside the store and found it full of deli-type equipment. Oih vey.

I don’t like investing in:

+ Miners, oil producers and energy companies.

+ Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, HarryNewtonCoin, or any initial coin offerings (also called ICOs).

+ Marijuana growers and  refiners, and Brinks, which is making a killing schlepping all the weed money around town. Marijuana companies can’t open bank accounts. Which is really stupid.

+ Biotech companies.

+ Retailers, especially strip malls.

Stocks I bought today:

+ AMAT

+ ALB

+ More of SQ

This is a 50% price drop over what our local gas station was selling them before.

As I was photographing the sign, a patron floated by and quipped, “You can get them on the Internet for a dollar.“

Of course, the only reason I run this irrelevance is so I can refer to the store as “Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow.“

Yom Kippur begins tonight at sundown

This is the best Yom Kippur story:

Rastas and Moses are outside the synagogue on Rosh Hashanah.

They hear a strange sound.

Rastas: “What’s that sound?”

Moses: “Why that’s the sound of the Jews blowing the shofar.”

BlowingtheShofar

Rastas, in total wonderment, replies: “Boy, them Jews really treat their hired help well.”

I would have stopped at the deli for a really good sandwich…unfortunately, more people would have stopped at a Mcdonald’s which would still be open for business!
