The most valuable stock advice I’ve ever written.

Lowball your buy bids on your favorite stocks. And wait.

You may get lucky. You may get very lucky.

Imagine if I had been intelligent enough to bid for Amazon at $1,400?

Or Netflix at $260?

Ultra-low bidding is the ONLY way to play a volatile market.

Ultra-low bidding fixes my ultra-high panicking.

When stocks are on sale, you buy.

When stocks are ultra-high (like Amazon at $2,050), then you sell.

Repeat this ultra-useful mantra again:

Ultra-low bidding is the ONLY way to play a volatile market.

Ultra-low bidding fixes my ultra-high panicking.

When stocks are on sale, then you buy.

When stocks are ultra-high (like Amazon at $2,050), then you sell.

This may be the most valuable piece of advice I’ve ever written.

If only I can teach myself how to listen to myself.

What a country!

Susan hands me this £20 note, saying “This is a tip for our nice taxi driver, who drove us from the airport.”

I gave him the tip. He was so appreciative. He said the tip wasn’t necessary and handed the £20 note back to me.

I was so impressed. Imagine a New York City cabbie rejecting a $26.53 tip for an airport ride! For that much money, he’d probably open his trunk and point to my luggage.

Today I went shopping at the local supermarket and gave them the £20 note. They rejected it. They said it was old and no longer “legal tender” — whatever that means. I said the Queen looked young and pretty. My New York charm didn’t impress them.

They asked for real money or a credit card.

I like this strategy of giving twenty pound tips. Cheap.

By the way, Coca Cola here has real sugar. It tastes better, too.

Today Sophie and I are riding the red bus upstairs and going on a London adventure.

The London buses and the London subway take Apple Pay on your iPhone. Supermarkets also take Apple Pay.  I love Apple Pay. How’s them Apples?

Never use my stupid plastic credit cards again. Keep them in my wallet. Only use my iPhone.

Congestion pricing

It costs £12 (about !6) a day to tootle around downtown London. They get you with their ubiquitous cameras.

Citymapper is the best city transport app in the world

Want to get from A to B in London? It will show all the ways from subway to buses, and subway and buses and even “rain safe” and wheelchair accessible ways. Also walking and biking.

Simply an app you must have if you’re in a big city.

More facts of life

Bill Gates has a big piece in the MIT Technology Review. But they had a paywall. They wouldn’t let me read Bill’s article.

They suggested I subscribe. OK.

Except that the subscription is on “auto-renew.”

So I emailed their customer service:

I’d like to buy a full year’s digital service.
But I don’t want to be auto-renewed since I am 85 and may not live that long.

What can you do?

The answer was nothing:
All new subscriptions are set to auto renew to provide uninterrupted service to our subscribers. Your subscription will be renewed at the initial term and at the then-current subscription rate (which will probably be much higher–Harry) when your term ends.
Why magazines continue to shoot themselves in the foot is beyond my ken.

VRBO is like Airbnb but maybe better
We got a nice VRBO flat in Kensington. It’s got a comfy living room, a full kitchen, superb WiFi and a huge terrace with table and chairs. I’m living like a King. Best of all, there’s a great hamburger joint up the road.
London is fun.

HarryNewton
Harry Newton. I don’t look like this anymore. Shucks. I got more wrinkles and longer ear lobes. No one told me about ear lobes that grow when you get antique.

My friend Dan just bingewatched Broadchurch on Netflix. He loved it. One day he’ll get a day job.

    Doesn’t anyone proofread anymore…? 🙂

    Hi Harry,
Using something similar to your advise above I placed a buy on Nutanix ~ -25% and it kept falling. How sweet… now down another 7%. I think your theory needs some work.

I use my Citibank MasterCard virtual card number feature for auto renew subscriptions, plus the card has a 2% cash back reward. Virtual card numbers are 16 digit numbers that connect to your credit card account, you set the credit limit and expire month then they are gone. You can also manually delete them at anytime. A few other banks have the option, Google virtual credit cards.

Do they still have Wimpy Burger joints? My favorite place to visit is the Victoria and Albert Museum…hated Madam Tussauds …Love London especially the private dining clubs where you arrive around 9 pm for cocktails and eat around 11 pm where they have held your table for you…go to work around 9 am the next day.
