YouTube TV cuts your cable cord. Can save oodles. A miraculous service.

Video streamed over the Internet delivers the same quality as cable and satellite TV.

Video streamed over the Internet is replacing cable and satellite TV.

Cable and satellite TV are in their death throes.

This has major investment implications. (Like why did AT&T buy DirecTV?)

For now, you need to look at your monthly cable and satellite bills and save some big money — as much as $2,000 a year.

My daughter did and cancelled all her cable TV subscriptions. She replaced them with YouTube TV, Netflix and Amazon Prime.

YouTube TV is the closest to cable but it has HUGE advantages over cable:

+ It costs much less.

+ It is not locked to one house. You can watch it in your holiday home, in your Airbnb, VRBO rental etc. You can watch it anywhere there’s Internet.

+ Six of you can watch it simultaneously — without the need for renting multiple cable boxes.

+ You can watch streaming video directly on your laptop, or iPad. Or on your TV through Apple TV, or Roku, etc. They’re one-time charges. No monthly rental.

+ You can watch your favorite shows whenever you want to. Think of YouTube TV as a gigantic cloud for TV shows.

YouTube TV which costs around $50 a month doesn’t get every channel — though it has all the important ones, like the networks, CNBC, Fox and The Tennis Channel. It doesn’t have HBO and of course Netflix. That’s where Amazon Prime and Netflix come in. If you subscribe to Netflix and YouTube TV, you’ll be paying $66 a month — much cheaper than  Spectrum or Verizon FiOS which is fixed to one location.

You saw this chart here last week. Stay away from Hulu, CBS All Access, HBO Now, and HBO Go. They don’t work well. I tried them. Disney will be available in December.

More cockroaches emerge on Boeing

Here’s another.

Claims of Shoddy Production Draw Scrutiny to a Second Boeing Jet

Workers at a 787 Dreamliner plant in South Carolina have complained of defective manufacturing, debris left on planes and pressure to not report violations.

For the full story, click here.

I don’t know if Boeing’s stock is immune to the flood of cockroach stories. Investors seem to be in love with Boeing. I am presently short Boeing stock and am losing a few bucks, though it’s down today. On Wednesday, Boeing will report its financials and talk about the outlook for its biggest-selling 737 MAX and now its troubled Dreamliner. I’m guessing the stock will fall a little more.

UNH’s stock has been hit with “Medicare for All”

UnitedHealth, Cigna, Anthem, and others have weakened on fear of Medicare for All. Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren are pushing Medicare for All, which means there won’t be a place for a private insurance company, like UnitedHealth. Personally, I don’t think there’ll be Medicare for All, but I could see Medicare being expanded to 55-years and older Presently you only qualify if you’re 65. Barrons thinks UNH is a bargain. Please join us in Slovenia and Croatia this summer

This July 30 to August 4, Michael and I are biking with a wonderful company called Backroads through Slovenia and Croatia.

We’ll be biking here (Lake Bled, Slovenia) and other places on a hand-picked route, carefully-choreographed route.  We stay at nice hotels and generally have a ball. Michael and I have been on five Backroads trips all over Europe and loved them all. There’s space on this trip if you’d love to join us. They have e-bikes for old fogies like me. I haven’t invested in cannabis

But all my friends tell me they’re making a “fortune” in it. I am wary for five reasons:

+ I don’t like the product. I try it regularly every ten years. I tried it recently. it was boring. If I want kicks, I’ll play tennis.

+ Too many laws. Too much government regulation.

+ Too easy to grow. Price per pound has dropped and dropped and dropped.

+ Too much hype. Very similar to crypto-currencies. Huge volatility. Who has the time to follow the volatility?

+ I don’t understand most companies’ business models. I don’t have the time nor the inclination to learn them. But that’s me. Maybe not you.

Variations of these five “NO” reasons should keep us out of unfamiliar, but hyped territory. Use the reasons to assuage your guilt (envy?) at not getting rich on all the stocks (like biotech and bitcoin) your friends are.

The state took over the ownership of Notre-Dame in 1909.

Everyone and their uncle have known the 800-year old church was a fire trap.

Yet all obvious fire prevention tools — like installing a sprinkler system or a sophisticated fire detection system — were ignored.

The priests insisted that entry be free — though charging $4 a visitor could easily have brought in $100 million a year — enough to make necessary fixes.

To get money, the priests had to go cap in hand to the State, which, like all states, is short of money and dealing with the fact that church membership is declining.

Good news: Billionaires have fronted with over a billion euros to rebuild the place. But these monies are upsetting France’s poorer people who feel left out of the economic riches and have been demonstrating in recent months.

Churches are under attack in France. More than 800 churches were attacked in France in 2018. Several parts of the Notre-Dame are seriously damaged. Islam is now the fastest growing religion in France. Read more on Gatestone. Click here.

Naked Man On Golf Course

Three ladies are playing the fourth hole at a very private golf club when a naked man wearing a paper bag over his head jumps from the trees and runs across the green.

The three ladies stand in awe at the size of his manhood.

The first lady says, ‘He is definitely not my husband.’

The second lady gazes at his manhood and says, ‘He’s not my husband either!’

After a very considered inspection, the third lady finally says, ‘He’s not even a member of this club’.

I will disagree about medicare for all, Harry.
Not only will it be implemented..but it should, for the sake of your grandchildren and all our grandchildren.

Our current patchwork system is an embarrassment at the least and a lethal situation for some at worst.

    • Secret Squirrel

I like my healthcare as do millions of Americans. Keep your Medicare for all hands off of it.
