Now is not the time to travel overseas. President Trump is a germaphobe. Dear Officer Krupke, krup you.

Now is not the time to travel overseas. As we close America down, you may be stranded or quarantined in some ungodly place — a military base, a cruise ship, or an island in the middle of nowhere. (Where Australia is sending its sick suspects.)

There is still no cure and no vaccine for this Coronavirus. Antibiotics do not work on viruses.

China is widening and tightening its lockdown.  On its front page today, The New York times today wrote:

China Expands Chaotic Dragnet in Coronavirus Crackdown
The “wartime” campaign to round up all who might be sick was extended to cities beyond the epicenter, even as it was marred by confusion that has isolated vulnerable patients and left some to die.

For the story, click here.

This morning the Times wrote on its web site:

Coronavirus Live Updates: China Says 1,700 Medical Workers Have Been Infected
Six of the workers have died, the government said on Friday. It was the first time officials have disclosed the number.

RIGHT NOW: China reports 5,090 new coronavirus cases and 121 new deaths in the past 24 hours.

That’s just the last 24 hours!

You can read that story here.

The U.S.’s CDC reports on travel:

1. Foreign nationals who have visited China in the past 14 days may not enter the United States.

2. American citizens, lawful permanent residents, and their families who have been in China in the past 14 days will be allowed to enter the United States, but will be redirected to one of 11 airports to undergo health screening. Depending on their health and travel history, they will have some level of restrictions on their movements for 14 days from the time they left China.

This is the latest chart from John Hopkins CSSE detailed Coronavirus COVID-19. The chart is big. You may need to click on it to see its full gore.

You can find the chart here.

I found this online:

During Fiscal Year 2019, an average of more than 14,000 people traveled to the United States from China each day, via both direct and indirect flights. The United States Government is unable to effectively evaluate and monitor all of the travelers continuing to arrive from China. The potential for widespread transmission of the virus by infected individuals seeking to enter the United States threatens the security of our transportation system and infrastructure and the national security.

There’s one additional factor: President Trump is a well-known germaphobe, who strictly enforces personal hygiene in the White House. He sends people out of the Oval Office who sneeze and cough. And — my favorite — he doesn’t like double-dipping — putting your carrot in the dressing twice.

In short, don’t go overseas. Wash your hands. Don’t touch your face. Don’t shake hands. Stay six feet away most people. Get plenty of rest.

And, if you’re in a crowded place, wear a mask. Here’s what I bought from Amazon:

Today in the market

Our NVDA will do well today.

I’m glad many of my readers are following my stock picks and have stayed heavily in technology.

I saw a friend’s portfolio last night. His financial advisor had put him heavily into bonds, money market funds and emerging market funds. And was charging him 1% for the privilege of ‘managing his portfolio. Turns out he hadn’t sold or bought anything in over ten years. That’s “managing?” That’s money for jam. My friend is moving his account to Vanguard, which doesn’t charge 1% for doing nothing.

West Side Story is on Broadway

It’s a spectacular new production. Please go.

After my writeup yesterday, many readers emailed me and told me how they remembered Dear Officer Krupke from 59 years ago. It’s been that long. And they wanted a memory jog.

OK. Here’s Dear Officer Krupke from the original 1961 West Side Story movie. In this clip, Officer Krupke is played by one of the Jets. Crank up the volume.

And here’s what Larry David did with it recently:

Enjoy.

On drugs and dietary supplements

+ 99% of us don’t need dietary supplements. We’re wasting our money. Nobody needs Prevagen, which is heavily advertised on BubbleVision.

+ Too many of us are taking too many prescribed drugs. And too many of those drugs are interfering with each other and causing horrible consequences to our bodies. All my medical friends tell me they always check PDR.net before prescribing a drug to their patients.

Here’s what the home page looks like:

That’s it for today. I’m seeing Zoe (left) and Sophie in seven hours. I couldn’t be happier.

I”m looking forward to losing to Sophie in Memories. She got her brain from someone else in the family. Not me. Lucky girl.

    Harry & Readers-
I think the impact of the coronvirus is yet to be seen and should Not be minimized. In the 2/15-16 WSJ edition Prof Steven Riley at Imperial College Of London says the ‘C virus is much more of a concern than SARS ever was in 2003, when 8,093 people got sick and 774 died.’ The Imperial College estimates ‘everyone can potentially catch it (C virus) … and the main reason for this is their estimate of the number of people who are currently infectious is higher than the maximum who were ever infectious at one time with SARS.’

NEVER…NEVER…NEVER EAT ANY FOOD FROM CHINA! We have been to China twice and we have seen how they grow their food and what they grow it in. You have heard of “Honey Buckets” that they gather “Night Waste” in then use that human waste to fertilize their crops. Hygiene methods in processing food is atrocious. READ THE LABELS…check for country of origin and if it is China, Indonesia, Korea, Vietnam or any other far east country put it back on the shelf. While not entirely dependable you can also check Bar Codes…Bar Codes starting with 690 – 695 GS1 are assigned to China. However, some countries mislead you…Canada buys fish from filthy waters off China and rebrand it…Country of Origin is labeled “Canada”. Ordering shrimp in a restaurant? Ask the server what the country of origin is first then decide if you really want to order their shrimp. I don’t!
