Straws. Lots of straws. And a mini-boomlet to show.

While I have dreams, the stock market is grasping at straws and having its best week since the Great Depression.

I dream it’s all over. There’s a cure. It’s called Hydroxychloroquine, with a seasoning of erythromycin. Or maybe it’s called Remdesivir?

I dream there’s a vaccine. There’s no bureaucracy and horrid delays in getting the money to the unemployed and the failing businesses.  I dream every one of the seventeen million unemployed is employed, overpriced stocks are more overpriced, the federal government will  stop playing politics with healthcare supplies and health care workers can get the PPE they need.

Finally someone at the federal will create a plan to solve this and get us out of it. I’d like to read something like the startup prospectuses I’m accustomed to — the extent of the problem ( the opportunities), the resources necessary (people and money) and the step-by-step plan.

But I dream.

And the market continues to boom.

It’s sort of reverse panicking.

Compliments are always nice

Anon: I told my wife how thankful I was to have someone I enjoyed being quarantined with.

She said, “Must be nice.”

Sad day

The Spencertown, NY Country store is closing on Saturday, felled by lack of demand. They sell the world’s best croissants.

Betting on stocks and on biotech

Most of our stocks are doing well. Our shorts are doing horribly.

Gilead is a bet on Remdesivir. Sanofi (SNY)is a bet on Hydroxychloroquine. The President’s friends and supporters own lots of SNY. Many of his supporters are convinced Hydroxychloroquine cures Covid-19. The Feds have bought oodles of it for the national stockpile — an interesting gamble with taxpayer money.

Biotech is a hard bet. Self-dealing sometimes works.

Today in my life

Our 82-year old friend is off 11-days on a ventilator and is recovering from his Covid-19 in ICU. That’s really good news. The hospital gave everyone in the ICU an iPad so they could communicate with their families. It’s really had to speak when you first come off the ventilator. I hope Apple gave them the iPads.

These are now my favorite TV headphones:

They’re more expensive — $120 — than the Sennheiser ones I’ve pushed over the years. But they’re much, much better. They’re Bluetooth, not WiFi.

This afternoon

This afternoon, I’ll be trying for a stronger cross-court, one-handed tennis backhand. Meantime, it’s raining in Columbia County and our beloved family dog, Rosie, who doesn’t like rain, is reluctant to do her business. My dogie motivation skills are limited. We’ll see who wins this one.

Such are the concerns of being quarantined today in really horrible weather.

See you tomorrow. —  Harry Newton

I support, endorse and love President Donald J Trump who not only is our greatest president of all time but also smarter than any doctor. When he touts the drug as a cure you better believe it’s a cure. Trump knows all, sees all. What he has done for mankind is incredible. I only hope that those who oppose Trump, I hope their families become ill. THe Democrats are acting recklessly in this pandemic; the World Health Organization and the Democrats were slow to react. Only President TRump saw this coming – way back in January! Harry, please give Trump the benefit of the doubt. He has earned it.

But the best reason to carry a handkerchief has nothing to do with you.
It’s the chance to lend it to others that’s commends this practice the
most. Be sure to put one in your pocket when you go see a tear-jerker
movie with your girlfriend or accompany your wife to a funeral. When
women are feeling vulnerable, they’ll really appreciate your offer of a
soft hankie. It’s a gallant and chivalrous gesture; there’s just
    something comforting about it.

    Harry…….you are a first class fucking moron……period.

Trump is going to deposit your entire filthy satanic lucifarian dem party into the trash-bin-of-history, and it’s going to be BIBLICAL!!!

I know nothing about this fellow, except that he reads my blog, doesn’t like it and sends comments like this one. Usually I delete them. But this one summed up his feelings succinctly. Why he upsets himself reading my stuff is beyond my pay level.

      • Secret Squirrel says:

He’s right about the Democrat party. They’re the never let a crisis go to waste party.

The bill is “a tremendous opportunity to restructure things to fit our vision.” says Rep James Clyburn (D., S.C.)

As they hold up aid to Americans for the very reason Clyburn says. The media yawns.

If said by a Republican and aid was held up, it would be headline news everywhere.

        • Lucky says:

Although a very morose thought…do they not understand that the longer they delay action, to garner votes, there may be that many fewer voters around to vote for them. They can always create new bills in an effort to achieve their questionable goals.
