“Buy the rumor, sell the news”, especially when it is so widely anticipated like the Verizon/iPhone news.
Verizon ran up, then sold off, three trading days before yesterday’s announcement.
Apple was the big winner. It got to sell an obsolete iPhone 4 through another carrier. There’ll be an iPhone 5 in May/June.
AT&T was the big loser. Even Jon Stewart’s Daily Show slammed the carrier for its reputed ultra-lousy service, featuring failed calls.
I tried a Verizon iPhone 4 on one call to California at yesterday’s press confernnce. Then I used my own AT&T iPhone 4 to call the same Calfornia number.
The AT&T call sounded better. Go figure.
Awful flooding in Australia.
It’s so bad that, after the Brisbane River broke its banks in several places. they evacuated downtown Brisbane — Australia’s third largest city.

Harry Newton who wonders why he bothered attending Verizon’s press conference yesterday. No Ivan. No Steve. No demos. No slides. No new features. Desultory. Lots of press, however. Look at the video cameras. A reporter quipped to me, “Looks like we’re announcing a new president.”
The Verizon iPhone will run on Verizon’s old CDMA network, not its new 4G LTE network, which is ten times faster. Verizon justifiably ballyhooed 4G LTE in Vegas, but not yesterday. A reader commented on yesterday’s blog, “But, the Droid phone that Verizon just rolled out can use its 4G LTE network. Verizon is covering the bet and raising the pot.”
Can you please tell me why RIM is not getting crushed? Between the iPhone and Android I feel like they are going to be pushed out of the smartphone market…or maybe it's just a matter of time. Thoughts?
Conventional wisdom it that it is because people who use their phones for email (business users) want a real keyboard instead of a screen. People who want to surf the web, play games, watch movies, etc.. want all screen.
