I don’t think it’s too late to buy Nvidia. We await its earnings in six days.
It’s bounced back to almost its earlier high of $136. Its market cap is now an eye-popping $3.16 trillion. All my readings suggest its buyers are still buying Nvidia’s chips hand over fist. I’m loving the new benefits I’m getting from all the AI, Nvidia-powered search engines — Perplexity, Microsoft’s Copilot, ChatGPT and even Google. Not to mention the improved pleasures of Instagram. Thank you Meta(Facebook).
Where now with ASTS?
Here’s this year:
ASTS is heavily hyped at present.
One day, it will be amazing telecom technology — Life saving. Huge market – if it works.
It’s a long way from working , i.e. becoming real. Its first satellites won’t go up until first quarter 2025.
Right now, it has a high market cap — $10 billion. It’s had a huge run – from $2.50 in June to last night’s $36.44.
My recommendation is to sell now, take profits and buy it back in coming months when it will be much cheaper.
Its a wonderful technology spec — at a lower price.
Irksomes
+ I forget to transfer my zero interest checking account to my Fidelity account which pays 5%.
+ I allowed Microsoft to sneak Windows 11 onto one of my laptops. I can still find no reason to move to Windows 11. I even asked Microsoft CoPilot what’s so good about Windows 11 and got nothing persuasive. There are things I still don’t like about it: The “new” interface (hard to get used to), the new taskbar (too big), and most irksome, the stupid new Snipping Tool. I use the Windows 10 Snipping Tool every day . That’s what gives me the charts above. Finally, there’s some of my favorite software which still don’t work on Windows 11. So, beware, when you’re updating your Windows 10, don’t say Yes to “upgrading” to Windows 11.
+ I put a frosted bulb in a light fixture that was already frosted.
+ I forget to reboot my Internet router, my online brokerage software, my car, my iPhone. Everything is a computer and needs regular rebooting to get back to normal.
+ Friends haven’t frozen their credit files with the three biggies — TransUnion, Experian, Equifax. With all the hacking of big databases, you don’t want to be exposed to fraud. Freezing your credit files is the easiest and simplest way to deal with this threat.
+ I delayed too long before I got rid of DirecTV, which is overpriced, and unreliable (like when it rains). It also totally inflexible. I could write a book on what’s wrong with DirecTV. Suffice you don’t need it. I now pay $83.98 a moth to YouTubeTV — but it’s worth every penny and more. I could even watch it in Paris using my excellent Mullvad VPN.
+ You also don’t need Verizon Wireless, which is getting worse by the day — at least in my area. T-Mobile’s resellers, Mint Mobile, is much cheaper and better.
+ Internet in your home or office will be at least ten times faster if you connect your laptop directly by wire to your router.
I am worried about the election
I don’t want to lose my beloved adopted country to the madnesses of Donald J. Trump.
Madnesses? Yes, Madnesses are what happen to autocrats/presidents/etc. , i.e. people who stay in power forever. Stalin, Mao. Maduro and the many who are around today like Maduro, Xi, Putin, Assad, Kim Jong-un.
Sometimes the people are able to kick out the dictators (e.g. Ukraine). What’s different today is the world’s dictators are working together, trading with each other to make sure each have the money and the technology to stay in power forever.
These three books are beautifully written and beautifully researched. I spent my entire France Olympics trip reading the Mao book. He was mad. He killed 70 million plus people. He wrecked China. Yet he is revered today in China. He formed he Chinese Communist Party which still rules the country. That’s 75-years and counting. The book is banned to this day in China. If you’re visiting, don’t take it in your luggage, or on your Kindle or laptop.
Trump has a plan to stay in power forever. It’s called Project 2025. Mandate for Leadership. The Conservative Promise. It’s 922 pages. You can read it here.

Today’s New York Times has a piece on what Trump’s second term ight look like. Click here. The reporter asked Timothy Snyder, a historian at Yale and an expert on the regimes of Stalin and Hitler, and author of the book above.
Snyder wrote by email: “It would be closer to the truth to think about a second Trump administration beginning from the images of Jan. 6, 2021. That is where Trump left us and that is where he would begin.”
Democracy depends upon example, and Trump sets the worst possible one. He has openly admired dictators his entire life. He would encourage Xi and Putin. The Russians make completely clear that a Trump presidency is their hope for victory in Ukraine. Allowing Russia to win that war, which I think is Trump’s likely orientation, destabilizes Europe, encourages China toward aggression in the Pacific, and undermines the rule of law everywhere.
Trump has promised to pardon the 890 people so far found guilty off federal crimes because of January 6 raid on the Capitol.
