Nvidia will join the Dow on Friday. It replaces Intel, my unfavorite chip company.

My brain can’t get around the fact that Mr. Trump and his merry band of controlled Republicans are trying to take us backwards. Today, The Washington Post headlined:

Recently women have died (in Texas and elsewhere) because they were sick and the only way to cure them was essentially an abortion. Their cases had absolutely nothing to do with terminating a fetus’s life. It had to do with saving the mother’s life. Yet, they died because of Republican legislation.
It’s weird. But it’s far easier to terminate the pregnancy of your dog. You’d want to do that if your dog’ was sick and her life in danger. Your vet won’t go to jail for giving your dog an abortion.

In that article I said that I had spent days worrying whether Donald Trump will actually implement some of his more insane ideas — like rounding up and deporting 11 million people or putting tariffs as high as 100% and more on goods Americans buy every day. Or pulling out of NATO, dropping all military aid to Ukraine and encouraging Russia to take it — to do whatever the hell they wanted to — as he once famously said.
Recently, John Cassidy of the New Yorker wrote:
The message about raising tariffs is fairly simple: You raise tariffs. Others raise tariffs. Pretty soon trade dies. And everyone gets poorer. It happened in the 1930s. It took a war — a big one — to get us out of that mess.
New tariffs won’t pay down the deficit, as Trump asserts. Cassidy has the numbers.
But the tariffs will make us all poorer.

This morning I had breakfast in a nice restaurant. I asked the manager if she was fearful of her and her staff being rounded up and deported. Her answer? “Maybe.” She looked fearful.
I was afraid for her and her people.
And me and Susan? We are both immigrants. One year I paid the IRS $40 million. Does that make me less of a “vermin,” as Mr. Trump has so nicely called us.
I’ll be voting at 9:00 AM tomorrow for Kamala Harris, who has promised to take us forwards, not backwards. Who premised not to hate, not to divide us. But to build this great country.
