Fear and optimism as I pivot my holdings. Some of my favorite things.

Am I afraid? Yes.

Do I know what’s going to happen, or what I should do about it? No.

There is logic in waking NATO up.

For too long the EU has dilly-dallied about its miserable support for Ukraine, while funding Russia, by buying its oil, fertilizers and titanium.

Russia invaded Ukraine four years ago (this February 24).

Russia and China do have their eyes on Greenland. China’s strategy is less military and more its Belt and Road strategy — infrastructure which China links with 150 participating countries.

This morning my portfolio is down 1%, less than I thought it would be. There are some positive shoots: My CoreWeave short is up. Ditto for longs in gold, silver, copper and uranium. And GEV, MU, STX,WDC and VICR.

Sadly, my portfolio is being pulled down by NVDA, GOOGL and AMZN. The Magnificent Seven is no longer magnficent.

My biggest miss is SanDisk, which I owned at one point — until it went parabolic. Then I sold it. Stupid.

Now it continues to go even more parabolic.

Look at this one-year chart of SanDisk verus Nvidia, Google, Amazon, Barrick Mining, and PSLV (silver). Amazing?

Some of my favorite things

+ The thing sticking out the side of my ThinkPad X1 Carbon laptop is a 512 gigabyte SanDisk hard drive, which I back my working files up to.

It costs $54. Click here.

+ I love Google Chrome browser It just keeps getting better. It remembers all my userIDs and passwords across all my laptops and my iPhone. It now has Gemini, which is OK.

+ I just bought a 2025 new Subaru Wilderness Outback. It’s my sixth Subaru Suburban. It’s been great in the recent snow we’ve had. Subarus give reliability a whole new meaning.

+ I use Perplexity for most research. I pay them money for their Pro version. That tells you how good it must be, if someone as cheap as me pays cash. Real money.

+ I like my new Vivtone hearing aids. I can use them as hearing aids, phone call speaking and listening to music, They’re comfortable. They can stay in all day. They have an app for adjusting responses to frequencies and you can adjust them for various environments — like restaurants. Their customer support is really good.

$489. Worth every penny. Click here.

+ Verizon is a disgrace. A ten-hour outage in today’s world. Shame. My advice: drop them entirely and get Mint Mobile (aka T-Mobile) — as I did a while back), or get a second line on your iPhone from Mint Mobile.

+ YouTubeTV. For $94 a month, I get all the channels I want, plus the Australia Tennis Open — now on. My two favorite features: I can skip commercials, saving 20 minutes an hour. I can pause, rewind and play later. And I can find shows I missed.

+ JPMorgan is a great place to have a bank account. Their service is superb, especially for important people (like me). Ha!

Favorite all time cartoon (from the New Yorker)

I pulled a calf muscle a few days ago. Two days later I tried to play tennis on it. That was stupid.

I’m now nursing a bruised calf and a bruised ego. The latter is worse.

I’ll back back on the court soon,. Meantime I’ll watch the 21-year old do miracles on Melbourne’s tennis courts.

See you soon, I promise. – Harry Newton
