When in doubt, stay out. Or stick with index funds.

It’s been a good, if harrowing, run, this year:

Good argument for sticking with index ETFs.

Why do I think this New York Times piece is funny?

crookedhillary

Trump cancelled a meeting with New York Times journalists because he said they had changed the rules. They said they hadn’t.

He refers to the newspaper as “failing.”

His Twitter tweets get far more readers than the New York Times.

Tips

+ Chrome is the best browser. Its “auto-fill” remembers passwords, addresses, credit card numbers, etc. And it syncs across multiple devices.

+ Always put two luggage tags on the outside and several business cards inside your checked luggage. Good idea to print your trip itinerary and put that inside your bags. Amazing how many tags get ripped off and how many bags get lost because there’s no identification on or in the.

+ Don’t eat too many Brussels Sprouts. There is some evidence they may create pancreatic cancer. I don’t make this stuff up.

Harry’s back tips

No engineer would design something as stupid as the human back. Think of a building a bridge without supports, e.g. suspension cables. You have the human back.

+ Back pain is mostly caused by a trauma —  lifting, bending, jerking, etc. Maybe today. Maybe last week. Practice bending. Don’t pick heavy things up. Slide into a car with your elbow on the middle console.

+ Stand erect. good posture is key.

+ Exercise of sorts helps. But you’ll never strengthen your core. Keep trim, thin and in condition.

+ Rest cures everything. Short mid-day naps work.

+ Controlling stress is critical. But not easy. Control is key.

Harry Newton who counsels “When in doubt, stay out,” or, stick with index funds. Watch out for “predictions.” They didn’t work for the election. They didn’t work for the Trump stockmarket — the one we have now. And, if  your bets (on “hot” biotech stocks) don’t work quickly, get out and cut your losses. However, avoid (if you can) making big profits this year. Next year, our Federal taxes will be much lower.

So, are you saying that Trump pardoned a turkey for Thanksgiving?

  2. JimBobToo says:

Harry, don’t believe the crap about brussels sprouts/cancer link. First of all, five more “studies” will probably reverse that finding a couple times. If anything, pesticides MIGHT cause the cancer link, but it could just be a statistical anomaly. Just get organic veggies and you should be fine.

The link is not scientifically proven — between brussels sprouts and pancreatic cancer. But I have it on good authority. And there are plenty of other vegetables. Also I said don’t eat too many of them.
