Some of the mortgage REITs have fallen in recent days, including NLY and AGNC. I don’t know precisely why. There is a tendency for these things to fall when there’s rumor of a rate increase. But there hasn’t been many rumors of late. All the brokerage reports I’ve read recently have been positive…not that brokerage reports mean anything.
I don’t like mortgage REITs falling. I own too many of them. But then I was amazed by their recent meteoric rise. I own these things not for their potential capital appreciation, but for their handsome yields — typically 14% plus. So I’m hanging and watching.
Apple has fallen 10% from its peak. The Internet has been full of stories — 20 reasons Apple is overpriced. 20 reasons it’s underpriced. Our inviolate Stop Loss Rule says dump Apple. I might. I don’t like the new management and Samsung is eating Apple’s lunch with the Galaxy SIII phone. See here.
Dragon Dictate works well. It works on the Mac, on Windows machines and on the iPhone. I’ve mentioned it before. I like it but it’s slower than typing — unless you type slowly. For more, read Walt Mossberg in today’s Wall Street Journal. Click here.
Business is not difficult. You just got to take care of your customers. Which basically means being nice to them and staying in touch. My God, it’s so easy these days to dash off a quick email. Why do so many of my suppliers ignore me? I’m not feeling entitled, nor are my purchases huge. But I pay real money…
Amazing how much good press the “liberal” media is giving Mitt Romney. For example read Sunday’s New York Times Magazine piece. Click here. The press is now focusing on his record as governor of Massachusetts — which was remarkably good. What irks me presently about Obama — the man I voted for last time — is that he seems incapable of formulating and pumping out a Vision for America. Even Cramer has some positive ideas — like switching all Federal vehicles to natural gas, which we have in the U.S. in spades. That would certainly jump-start us on our way to becoming energy independent of those nice Middle Eastern “allies” who finance our enemies. You see what the Taliban just did? They gunned down a 14-year old girl, Malala Yousafzai, because she said publicly about her passion for education and how she wanted to become a doctor. Click here. The Taliban get their own “education” in schools financed by rich Saudis. We buy a lot of oil from Saudi Arabia. We shouldn’t buy anything from them. This is so bleeding obvious. Why the administration doesn’t get it escapes me altogether.
Harry Newton, who’ had an MRI on his shoulder yesterday. The doc is threatening a cortisone shot. Anyone had one? I’m scared.

I had a cortisone shot in the knee a few years back. It was a real large neeedle/shot and looked much more scary than it felt. Plus my knee felt great for about two months. It’s not a cure of any kind. Just gives you a break from the pain so maybe you can heal a bit.
Don’t get the shot and then go back to your usual 4 hours of intense tennis a day. You’ll make matters worse.
Good luck with the cortisone Harry!
Cortisone shots work, liberal policies don’t work, domestic gas and oil drilling do work, kissy kissy with the Moslem world doesn’t work, creating companies like Staples does work, community organizer as prep for presidency doesn’t work. Common sense applied to all these does work; political correctness does not work.
I want the app that blocks (*pick your favorite cussword/name here*) on Harry’s otherwise enjoyable site.
It’s a free country (is it still?) but coming across what some of your posters leave behind is like taking a walk in New York before the poopscoop days…
I had one in my shoulder. I had surgery for a torn labrum and was in therapy for that and couldn’t get the movement I needed due to pain. It helped a lot. The shot is not fun, but after a few days you will feel much better.
Harry, you if upgrade your Mac OS to Mountain Lion you already have dictation capabilities. In fact, I use it to dictate in different languages. Not sure if you can dictate a LONG paragraph but it’s pretty accurate. Love that it comes embedded in the OS and I don’t have to load another program that clogs up my computer.
Harry, you might check out prolotherapy at http://www.getprolo.com. I am on session 2 of 3 for my shoulder, felt immediate relief, though problem takes 20 weeks to totally resolve. Also, they don’t tell you this, but it involves sticking needles into the affected area and creating little blood clots, and it hurts like hell. Not that a little pain would dissuade a tough guy like you, just saying’…
It’s funny when I read a liberal trying to make the case that the media doesn’t have a huge left bias. Even they can’t spin what everyone saw in that debate, and they know it. Reality is a nasty mother-f***er. By the way Harry in actuality we by very little oil from the Saudis.
Harry, get one. Had 2 in my knee — instant relief. powerful anti-inflamatory. Then decided to give up biking. Joints wear out in your 70’s, Ease off the tennis — your body is talking to you–listen to it. PBS “Nightline” contrasted the two candidates last night. Romney makes Obama look like the amateur he is. The presidency is not a place for training wheels.
I enjoy running and developed plantar fasciitis 5 years ago. Six months of physical theraphy with special arch supports and the pain continued to get progressively worse. I was walking with a limp and found it impossible to run. One cortisone shot and I felt 90% better after a few weeks. A second cortisone shot and the pain went away and has not returned. It took about 3 months to get over problem.
Harry, I’ve had 14 over 10 years in different parts of my body. As an athlete, nothing to worry about, however rest the arm. You will feel great afterwards but don’t over do it.
Harry,
Forget the cortisone shot. It also comes with a extended rest period meaning, put your tennis game to rest for a while. Not sure if you had one when you had tennis elbow, but they are very short term.
Just my two cents.
