GoPro goes public today. The Wall Street Journal has a piece on the company’s formation and growth. The founder (now a billionaire) and his family are the big beneficiaries. Click here.
It’s been priced at the top of its expectations, $24. I didn’t get any shares at $24. Will I buy some later today? I don’t know. Depends… Maybe I’ll put in a low bid and pray. Apparently they were twenty times oversubscribed. Hot issue. Enormously impressive founder. Remember that great IPO video which I highlighted a little while back?
It’s wonderful to watch Google invent and experiment. The company just had its developer conference. For more click here and here.
Time Magazine writes about “The End of Iraq.” You can read the entire piece here. What the online piece leaves out is this useful sidebar, which I scanned from Time’s paper edition. Sort of explains all and why it’s impossible to fix this mess.
Aereo lost its appeal before the Supreme Court. This is a dark day. I’m an Aereo subscriber. I love its service, especially the quality of its picture and its ease of use. You may remember, Aereo is a service that streams local TV over the Internet to your PC or TV. I’m guessing Aereo will work some deal to pay the networks to keep their service going. Meantime, you can read all about it here.
Stop press: Aereo just released a statement. Click here.
The blonde and her car.
A blonde was trying to sell her old car. She was having a lot of problems selling it, because the car had almost 230,000 miles on it.
One day, she told her problem to a brunette she worked with at a salon. The brunette told her, “There is a possibility to make the car easier to sell, but it’s not legal.”
“That doesn’t matter,” replied the blonde, “if I can only sell the car.”
“Okay,” said the brunette. “Here is the address of a friend of mine. He owns a car repair shop. Tell him I sent you and he will `fix it’. Then you shouldn’t have a problem anymore trying to sell your car.”
The following weekend, the blonde made the trip to the mechanic. About one month after that, the brunette asked the blonde, “Did you sell your car?”
“No,” replied the blonde, “Why should I? It only has 50,000 miles on it!”

Harry Newton who cautions everyone not to put any weight on the key chain that carries your car ignition key. That extra weight could cause your ignition to shut off and your air bags to not deploy — and not just in GM cars.

Modern day cars don’t have key chains, Harry…you gotta dump that old Subaru and get up to date with a nice and easy push button start! Even my 8 year old Lexus has push button start and keyless entry.
