Three hot technology IPOs I continue to like

Alibaba did good last night, up 54% in revenue. Priceline issues weak outlook. It will skid.

Lesson: older IPOs have difficulty maintaining their momentum as they get bigger, e.g. Google and Amazon.

Newer ones I like include CYBR (CyberArk), GPRO (GoPro) and MBLY (Mobileye).

Don’t forget beneficiaries of oil’s continuing fall: AAL  and DAL. Don’t go near any oil stocks while the crash continues.

I’m looking increasingly favorable long-term to Nike (NKE). There’s no limit to the opportunities that company faces.

For the best index fund, try Vanguard’s VFIAX. It mirrors the S&P500. Its fees are only 0.05%, which is really low. Here are recent returns:

VFIAX

Buy some VFIAX for your kids. You need $100,000 for this Admiral fund. If you don’t have $100,000, the fund is VFINX. Its expense ratio is slightly higher (but still cheap) at 0.17%. Low fees really make a difference to long-term performance.

Evidence of long-term effects is also building. A study released in 2012 showed that teenagers who were found to be dependent on pot before age 18 and who continued using it into adulthood lost an average of eight I.Q. points by age 38. And last year at Northwestern, Dr. Breiter and colleagues also saw changes in the nucleus accumbens among adults in their early 20s who had smoked daily for three years but had stopped for at least two years.

Difficult day for a big Obama supporter like Harry.

    • Harry Newton says:

Not a difficult day. As I’ve explained in recent months, I’m not happy with the President I voted for. The democrats earned their defeat. Sadly, they forgot to tout their accomplishments — the economy, the stockmarket, pulling (sort of) out of the Middle East. But they also forgot to produce a Plan for going forward. I can’t imagine a single board of directors tolerating a CEO who doesn’t tell his board where he’s planning on taking the company. I have no idea what Obama has planned for us in his remaining two years… It’s sad.

10,000 for this Admiral Fund, not 100,000. Check, Check, Check! :> Thanks for your daily column

You’re 100% right. I didn’t check because all Admiral funds have been $100,000 in the past… They must have changed recently. thanks for the heads up.

Harry, drinking tons of water, like 70 ounces/day flushes your system and contributes to weight lose. Works great for me.

Why three weeks ago when the market was down did you say ‘only a fool buys mutual funds’, then turn around today and recommend a Vanguard fund?

Nike? REALLY???? Remember, I’m the guy who touted Delta stock on here BEFORE it jumped a lot higher. It’s harder to call these things before they happen. Nike, I don’t like it, there are better buys out there.

What do you think of your 3 IPO stocks versus FEYE, SPLK and WDAY?
