When IBM had the motto THINK, my company had CHECK. CHECK. CHECK.
+ Check that none of your stocks have fallen more than 15%.
+ Check that the address you just sent out was correct.
+ Check that you paid the full real estate bill so they don’t hit you for a 10% penalty.
+ Check that the mice haven’t devoured your AC unit or your car, yet.
+ Check that the email you just sent out is not rife with typos and spelling mistakes. (Creates an awful impression.)

+ From a doctor: The New Health Care: Why You Should Exercise (No, Not to Lose Weight):
After I wrote last year that diet, not exercise, was the key to weight loss, I was troubled by how some readers took this to mean that exercise therefore had no value.
Nothing could be further from the truth. Of all the things we as physicians can recommend for health, few provide as much benefit as physical activity.
In 2015, the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges put out a report calling exercise a “miracle cure.” This isn’t a conclusion based simply on some cohort or case-control studies. There are many, many randomized controlled trials.

+ Investors haven’t hoarded cash like this in 15 years. Excerpt:
According to Bank of America Merrill Lynch’s latest fund manager survey, investors surveyed by the firm now have 5.7% of their net holdings in cash, the highest percentage since November 2001.
Recall that in November 2001 the US was mired in recession while dealing with the fallout of both the tech-bubble bursting and the September 11 terrorist attacks.
Right now the concern isn’t so much a reaction to traumatizing events like these but an anxious anticipation that something bad will happen.

+ How Microsoft’s tricky new Windows 10 pop-up deceives you into upgrading. Microsoft’s new trick to coax users into upgrading to Windows 10 relies on changing behaviors the pop-up’s instilled since December. Excerpt:
In December, the Get Windows 10 (GWX) pop-up changed its verbiage in a way that mimicked malware: The only immediate options were to “Upgrade Now” or “Start download, upgrade later.” An offer you can’t refuse! The wording changed slightly since then, but the only way to decline the upgrade has been the same: By clicking the X button in the GWX pop-up’s right-hand corner and closing the window.

Harry Newton who’s apprehensive about Brexit. Everyone and their uncle is warning about disastrous consequences for Britain leaving the EU. But voters are angry — especially in Europe where their economies have been awful since 2008. Many economies simply haven’t recovered and are languishing with high unemployment, especially among youth. Voter anger at elected governments is running high. How voters will react to the proliferating Brexit “disaster” warnings from politicians and finance gurus is anyone’s guess. Recently pollster predictions have been very wrong. Hi Harry – regarding the exercise vs eating question, its both. Most people cannot stay on a diet but with exercise you can. On weekends I have my juice and cocoa in the morning but I dont eat anything else until evening. I can do that as long as I can stay active but not if I have to sit around. So the exercise serves 2 purposes as far as weight loss.
And a question – have you compared your returns on all your stock picks, stop losses, etc versus SPY buy and hold?
And lastly – how good a tennis player are you? What rating?
Harry is not a good tennis player although he once finished 6th in the 85 to 90 age division at a tournament in Enid, Oklahoma.
Hi Harry,
Have you checked checked checked out Windows 10 on a spare comp? We bought a laptop with Win 8 and made it tolerable by installing “Classic Shell”. We upgraded to 10 around the beginning of the year and it’s been fine. Much better than native 8 on the user end; 10 loads fast and I don’t think it’s has ever crashed. Just my experience – Thanks!
windows 8 was awful. Even Microsoft admitted that. So Windows 10 should be better. My recommendation remains: don’t upgrade your present Windows 7 machine. If you want Windows 10, buy a new machine with a new install.
