Today’s headline pretty well sums it up.
Sorry I can’t be any more insightful.
The hearing aid saga continued. Readers are about as despairing for an honest audiologist as I am. Readers equate them to the worst used car salesmen. I haven’t found a hearing aid solution I’d recommend yet. But…
There are two bright notes. When I watch TV, I don the $70 Sonnheiser RS-120 wireless headphones. It has amplification.
Another solution is the Boostaroo, which amplifies big-time and allows you to share your audio.
I love my Boostaroo. It’s portable. It’s small. And it’s great for listening to movies on my laptop. I can finally hear the dialog. $24.95 from Cyberguys.
How to get photos from your iPhone to your PC.
+ You can email them one at a time. Painful and slow.
+ You can sync them to iTunes, if you can figure out how to do it. I can’t.
+ You can use a $3.00 app called Photo Transfer, which is the absolute best way. Get it from the Apple’s App Store.
This week’s favorite New Yorker cartoons.
Outlook idiocies.
+ When Outlook won’t send. Your email is stuck. Close Outlook. Wait. Then restart.
+ When Outlook won’t start after closing it, do Ctl/Alt/Delete and “end process” on Winword.exe and Outlook.exe. Wait. Then restart.
+ When Outlook has too much junk in it, archive your old stuff to another file.
+ When Outlook acts irrationally, find Scanpst.exe and Scanpst your Outlook.pst file. That cleans it. Microsoft calls Scanpast its Inbox Repair Tool.
Harry Newton who wonders why so many building contractors are so incompetent and so dishonest. I used to be naive. Now I am skeptical. I research and question and question. Unless I am a bigger expert than they, I am likely to be taken. the rules is: When in doubt, stay away.

Another way to transfer photos and other files to your iPhone or iPod Touch is by using Dropbox. Install the small Dropbox app on your PC and your iPhone/Pod. A My Dropbox folder will be added to your computer and a Dropbox app folder will be added to your iPhone. Then just save any file you want to the Dropbox folder on either device. Any files you put in the folders are automatically sunc'ed with the Dropbox cloud and also to all your devices. It's free for a limited amount of cloud storage space and then a small fee for more. I have yet to use up the free space.
two things Harry, get a MacBook Pro and check out hearing solutions from Starkey Laboratories. Your problems will vanish ….
I'm actually still using Outlook 2003. I looked at Outlook 2007, but couldn't get the hang of the new interface. Other than occasional quirks, which I solve by simply rebooting, I'm very happy with Outlook 2003 and POP3 mail. Are there are any persuasive reasons to spend the money on Office 2010?
Hey Harry what version of Outlook are you using? I just switched to outlook 2010 and it's a big improvement over previous versions. Also there imap support has been improved so that you can quickly search your past emails. If you do end up getting it, i would recommend you get the key, and register it online. Microsoft will then give you a link to download the program. You save $80 dollars from the retail cd price. Also two suggestions if you do upgrade, you should be using the imap version of your email accounts not pot. And finally in settings make sure you tell it move any deleted imap email account email to your all mail. So you have a copy online.

I have three sets of TV Ears, one in the living room, one in the bedroom, and one downstairs by the treadmill and really like them. Costco has carried them for several years and the price has been going down. When I was last in the store they were $49 and I noticed for while during the summer the price was $39. I just looked at Costco.com and it gives a price of $59.99.for online orders, shipping included.
Need an audiologist? I had an audiologist since I was 18 months old and she passed away 7 years ago. It took me a long time for me to find a good and honest audiologist in Manhattan. Try Yorkville Hearing. http://www.yorkvillehearing.com. My audiologist is Karen Greer and she is wonderful and patient. She was on a maternity leave over the summer and her colleague, Dr, Miriam DoOrio is wonderful. They have multiple offices –I go to the one on West 18th street where my ENT, Dr. Portnoy is located. I recommend them very highly
