No stimulus. Yuch. Shares fall. Yuch. But the real Fall is gorgeous. Yeah!

Stocks are choppy. I was up earlier. Now I’m down. Down big time. Maybe I’ll be up after I come back from tennis?

Looks like there won’t be a stimulus package before the election. that’s very unfair to the millions of out-of-work Americans who need a little help. Kennedy said Washington was 8 square miles surrounded by reality.

Netflix disappointed with its latest earnings report. If you don’t own enough Netflix, now might be a good time to buy some more.

Reporting on Netflix, CNBC makes these points:

+ Netflix shares fell after the company reported 2.2 million net additions in the quarter, missing its internal forecast and analyst estimates.

+ The subscriber miss shouldn’t deter Netflix believers in the company’s longer term plans.

+ Netflix said its “need for external financing is diminishing.”

If you have YouTubeTV (which I love) you can watch it for free. You may also be able to watch it here. Try here also. Click here.

Maybe they’ll take me?

I applied to be a poll worker in Columbia County, NY.

It’s easy to apply. Just Google: I want to be pollworker in wherever you are.

Disappointed in FedEx response

They charged me $34 to destroy my FedEx envelope and lose all the contents.

Since then, I’ve heard nothing because they’re “busy” with covid. And their automated bot is useless.

Yuch.

New stuff

+ This is the greatest kitchen knife ever.

It’s $170, but worth every penny. It’s a total pleasure to use. Click here.

+ TVs are suddenly cheap. The varieties available are immense. Hence you have to be careful choosing between big and little, curved and straight, etc.  More and more content and TV channels are streaming in over the Internet. So tastes in screens are changing. I’m preferring to watch on 32 inch screens sitting close on my desk or on my laptop resting on my lap in bed.  Good Bluetooth headphones are a must. All TVs still have lousy sound, whether attached to a sound bar or not.

+ New Rokus are cheap. They’re an easy way of bringing streaming content to your older TVs.

+ epub books can be read by the free Adobe Digital Editions software.

+ Break-ins are down, because of covid. Hence little towns are ramping up their traffic checking and are giving out expensive tickets for the most minor stuff. I got one for “improper u-turn.” The cop couldn’t explain what I did improperly. But that didn’t stop him giving tickets to everyone and their uncle who passed by.

+ Since you’re not going anywhere these days, it’s good idea to negotiate down your car insurance premiums.

More wonderful excuses, courtesy Reader’s Digest

+ Working as an apartment manager, I’ve heard every excuse for why the rent is late. Husband got laid off. Kids were sick. I lost the money order. Or simply, I forgot.

But the most creative excuse was this: “I only had half the rent. So I went to the casino to try to double my money.”

+ Years ago as a young man driving a very old station wagon, I was pulled over for speeding. “You know you were doing 55 in a 45-mph zone,” the officer said.  I knew he was wrong and told him, “Honestly, officer, I don’t think this piece of junk can go that fast.”

“You know, that’s the best excuse I’ve heard in a long time.” He then got back into his patrol car without ticketing me.”

More Fall photos

I took these with my Canon G5X — $699 new. Click here. Or $461 renewed. Click here.

It does a better, easier job than my iPhone 11 pro max. But you gotta carry it as well. It fits into a pocket.

OK. Here’s today’s bunch of Fall photos. It continues to be gorgeous up in Columbia County, NY.

And finally, the tree from my office window:

The sun is shining. The wind has ebbed, a little. There’s a tennis court beckoning. — Harry Newton
