Bitcoin touches $50,000. And some of our “bitcoin” stocks do well

Bitcoin hit $50,000 today, but closed slightly below. Not all “bitcoin” stocks were up — TSLA and MSTR were down. But PYPL, GBTC, SQ and RIOT were up.

Crypto is clearly going up — based on the extraordinary number of press releases I’m getting daily about it. The buzz is hot and heavy. They all push “experts” on me, willing to give me insights I’m craving (or not).

I googled: What will bitcoin be worth in 2030? and got this delicious answer:

Clearly bitcoin has more buzz than gold, silver or palladium.

Many people believe Michael Saylor as the leading bitcoin guru. Here’s an old interview. It recounts how he put $1 billion of Microstrategy’s money into bitcoin. Microstrategy (MSTR) is a legitimate software company. This is how Wikipedia describes it: “MicroStrategy Incorporated is a company that provides business intelligence, mobile software, and cloud-based services. Founded in 1989 by Michael J. Saylor and Sanju Bansal, the firm develops software to analyze internal and external data in order to make business decisions and to develop mobile apps.”

Here’s bitcoin over the last year.

Living (?) and learning

I’ve been working with my team on updating Newton’s Telecom Dictionary, now 1440 pages, about to go to 1550+. Amazing the explosion of computing, network and telecommunications terms — reflecting the incredible explosion in innovation in the past few years.

if you upgrade to the new iPhone 12 Pro Max (which I recommend), please get the fellow in the store to move all your stuff over. Don’t trying doing it yourself — unless you’re a masochist and enjoy that sort of torture.

See you tomorrow. — Harry Newton
