The rotation continues. But who cares? I have faith. Also Spring and Passover are here. With the best jokes.

This market has been gruesome for me, because my allocation is too tilted to tech stocks (like Apple, Amazon, Nividia, PayPal and Tesla) Fortunately, I also own stocks AVXL, RBLX, LUV, LOW, JETS, TGT, GE, COST, TSCO, HD and F. They’re mitigating, but not enough.

Ah, the value of “diversification.”

The other value is not panicking, i.e. not selling when stocks are “rotating” or whatever they call this escape from covid stocks like TelaDoc  and Zoom.

Personally, I think we’ll be back to technology. You can’t get tech’s growth with boring stocks like Walmart.

CNBC just wrote a piece saying

    • Investors should avoid the impulse to time the market, new data from Bank of America shows.
    • Looking at data going back to 1930, the firm found that if an investor sat out the S&P 500′s 10 best days per decade, total returns would be significantly lower than the return for investors who waited it out.
    • The market’s best days typically follow the largest drops, meaning panic selling can lead to missed opportunities on the upside.

Worried by Covid. Why you never want it.

Covid can be mild. It can be fatal. It can also linger with horrid turns. Item:

Texas Roadhouse founder and CEO Kent Taylor, 65, died on Thursday.

Taylor died by suicide after a battle with post-Covid-19 related symptoms, including severe tinnitus. Tinnitus is typically described as a ringing in the ear.

Technology

+ You can often get a much faster Internet on your cellphone than you can on a landline , like a DSL line from your local, sleepy phone company. Fiber is fastest but that often takes advanced begging to get.

+ Gmail is no longer the reliable email service it once was. It drops images. If often simply doesn’t deliver. My people are finding that, among free services, Yahoo works just fine.

+ Glossy screens on laptops are awful. So called anti-glare screens are much better. Check before you buy.

+ Ctrl plus the wheel on your mouse makes type on your screen bigger. Which is really useful for alta kakas like me.

+ Captio is the most useful, easiest-to-use app for your iPhone. Dictate to it. It appears flawlessly on the the screen. Hit the Send button. Two seconds later you have an email in your inbox.

Passover begins Saturday sundown, with a feast

There are three “logics” as to why it’s a feast:

+ They tried to kill us.

+ They failed.

+ So let’s eat.

The second best Passover story

A Jewish man took his Passover lunch to eat outside in the park. He sat down on a bench and began eating.

A  blind man came by and sat down next to him.

Feeling neighborly, the Jewish man passed a sheet of matzo to the blind man.

The blind man ran his fingers over the matzo for a few minutes, looked puzzled, and finally exclaimed, “Who wrote this crap?”

The best Passover story

Passover celebrates Moses taking the Israelites out of Egypt.

The story goes. Moses and the Israelites leave Egypt, travel the desert, finally reach the Red Sea.

Needing to get across the Sea, Moses calls for his VP Engineering. “Build me a bridge.”

“No bridge. We’re in the desert. Look around. No wood. No steel. No nothing.”

Moses calls for his VP Sales. “Beetle back. Work a deal with the Egyptians.”

After an hour, the VP sales returns, “Sorry, boss. No deal. They want us dead.”

In desperation, Moses calls for his VP Public Relations. “Yankele, so what do we do?”

Yankele responds, “See that rock. Stand on it. Lift your arms. Ask God to open the Red Sea. He will. Take your Israelites through the gap. When you get to the other side you’ll notice another rock. Stand on it. Wait for the Egyptians, their chariots and their war machinery to fill the gap. Raise your hands up. Ask God to close the gap. “God, make the waters to flow.” He will. Your enemies will be destroyed and you can pass on safely to The Promised Land.”

Moses, skeptically: “This stuff gonna work?”

Yankele replies, “I don’t know. … But if it does, I’ll get you three pages in the Old Testament.”

The six best reasons to feel great today

+ Spring seems to have sprung — at least where I am. Daffodil shoots are springing up. The sky is blue. It’s 64. Here are Zoe (left) and Sophie jumping for Spring.

+ The digitization of American business is bringing huge benefits to the businesses and their customers.  I’ll have a bunch of examples tomorrow.

+ Many of us have our two vaccine shots. That makes us feel great, but not stupid. We’re still wearing masks, and staying distant.

+ The stimulus bill will stimulate the economy and the stockmarket.

+ I’m continuing my tennis every day. Exercise feels good.

+ Susan and I celebrated our 45th wedding anniversary yesterday. It was nice.

See you tomorrow — Harry Newton
