Day-trading on an event. I figured Greg Smith’s resignation letter in the New York Times would cause Goldman’s stock to drop and I sold it short first thing. By lunchtime, I was being corralled into going to the tennis. I didn’t want to have it open while I was away from my computer. So I covered my short. Profit was around $525. Here’s Goldman’s chart of the past two days.
I don’t believe in day trading. But this one seemed obvious. I’m guessing the whole thing will blow over and the stock will bounce back. Hence, I’m glad to be out.
Greg Smith’s letter has started a raging discussion. Some people think the New York Times should never have published it. After all he was a disgruntled low-level employee. Others said “Right on.”
Personally, as a client of Goldman, I’m not impressed with their client-pleasing skills. They’ve made far more in fees from me than they’ve ever made for me. And they have treated me poorly. I would personally not be one of their clients — if I had a choice, i.e. I could sell the funds I have with them at what I paid for them eons ago.

California girls. She’s a mother of two, a successful chef and an immigrant from Mexico of 20 years.
She loves big trucks. I photographed her and her big red truck yesterday on my iPhone 4 in La Quinta, California.
Harry Newton who slept in this morning. It’s way early in California. It’s a little crazy trying to get up at 4:00 AM and finish the column by 6:00 AM.

Harry,
Everytime you post your blog from the west coast you are obviously much happier and heathy then when you do it from New York. Go back and look at any of your posts from California or the North West and see how positive and happy you sound, not to mention all the wonderful photos you post when out there. Sell it all in the East and move West before you no longer can. Live is short
Michael
Hear…Hear…Harry…Take it from a Westerner…the West is really a great place to live…all you other Easterners…please stay home so it does not become overcrowded in the West…California excluded!
Maybe she needs a smaller vehicle since she obviously doesn't know how to park.
Looks like there is a cement curb/wheel stop below the front bumper, so I think it safe to conclude it's a bona fide parking space. She's straddling the safety zone marked with the diagonal stripes just a bit more than the width of the rig's wheels (defined as the wheel+tire combination). It's equally likely that she felt it safe and acceptable according to the standards of the locality to straddle the wrong side of the white line to be courteous to the occupants of the white car on the other side, by giving them, and possibly her own passengers, a good amount room to open the doors of both respective vehicles. It could have been a calculated decision on her part to park there in that way, knowing she could “overflow” the parking space a bit w/o harming the spirit of any intergalactic parking treaty and the like, as opposed to jamming her rig into a space between two cars that might have left no room for her to open her rig's doors or that of the vehicles to either side.
Way to much bits to type in response to a typical internet snide remark. But someone has to stick up for the driver, in the spirit of Harry's tone, without having a surveillance tape of the denouement of her parking. It might even be an unspoken practice in those environs…
Cheers!
