There is real blood in some streets

A robust employment number this morning gives pause for optimism.

Several friends have now opted for bottom fishing.  Sample targets. Amazing 2-year charts.

I don’t personally like catching falling knives. But I understand that buying low and selling high is the name of the game.

This is the S&P 500 over the past two years — the same scale as the charts above.  Volatile. Not for the faint of heart. But still up.

Free cruise to the Bahamas

I won one this morning. The good news is that I can go into “Recents”, left scroll the little i and block the caller. This is my meager little weapon, since the government’s “no call” list clearly doesn’t work.

The greatest Christmas commercial ever.

I cried every time I’ve watched this short video. Click here.

Latest on guns:

+ Why gun violence may be about to get worse. Read a short piece called “Domestic Terrorism and America’s Gun Dilemma.” Click here.

+ Why fighting gun violence by arming citizens isn’t a crazy idea. From The Week Magazine. Click here.

+ Every Senate Republican except Mark Kirk of Illinois voted against legislation to prevent people on the F.B.I.’s consolidated terrorist watchlist from purchasing guns or explosives. The measure has been introduced repeatedly since 2007. The Government Accountability Office has documented that over years of congressional blockage, hundreds of suspected terrorists on the watchlist bought guns.

Another bill that would have expanded background checks to gun show and online firearms sales to screen out convicted felons and the mentally ill also failed on Thursday. The four Republican senators running for president — Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio, Rand Paul and Lindsey Graham — all turned up to vote against these common-sense measures. For more, click here.

I don’t believe in taking away everyone’s guns. But I do believe there are certain people who shouldn’t be allowed them. I’d like to make the country a safer place for my grandchildren. But I worry.

Finally Sophie is making it up the stairs. This is freaking her mother, Claire. Them stairs are slippery, steep and dangerous.

Eleanor at Thanksgiving dinner, enjoying her one (and only) moment of screen time. Sadly, I look more than antique. But I look good in my $99 Uniqlo jacket.

Grandkids are wonderful. I’m getting another one in January.

I’m returning to New York tomorrow. Eastern time seems more “natural.” It’s weird waking up at 4:00 AM.

It is sad when two people can walk into a building with over a thousands people and start killing and they are the only ones with guns. And your thinking is to make sure that ONLY the killers have guns. Are you worried that someone may hurt one of the killers?

    • bruuno says:

Huh-uh, it’s the “other guy” with guns that’s crazy.
More guns, that’s the answer, right.

There hasn’t been a single mass shooting in Australia since.. 1996. You may want to look into why.

      • sam says:

You missed the point. Maybe in Australia all the bad guys turned in their guns.
In this country I’m thinking that will not happen.

      • laughnow says:

That Australia’s population is a fraction of the US, and psychotropic drugs are not widely used in the population, like in the US. Every single one of the shootings in the last 5-7 years, the shooter was on psychotropic drugs. This is the second large scale attack by Muslim extremists, which also likely dont live in Australia. After all, its the US not Australia that is considered the great Satan. Too many reasons to count why Australia hasnt had mass shootings.
